Well John decided that my Model 28 was great so yesterday he goes and gets one for himself. I'm jealous. Though he paid more for his it shows by the fact that it has a nicer finish. Less holster wear, but both of our 28's are in good shape mechanically. His is pinned and recessed.

Okay his serial number is N5505XX. Was this manufactured in the early seventies? I read the thread yesterday, but I had a little difficulty in following the info regarding all serial numbers from N1-N6000 being manufactured in 71-72.

Also we noticed that the cylinder is of a different shade then the frame's blueing. Why would this be? On my 28 the frame and cylinder are a uniform shade, almost black. On his the cylinder (in very good shape) is almost a blue green while his frame is dark blue. I think it's the factory cylinder. His model still had the original factory grips on it (serial numbered). Boy I'm jealous.

That would be 1979. On the bluing it`s hard to say. Maybe the salts were different in the bluing process.
At one time in the early `80s they were having problems with certain police Model 10s rusting because the bluing was NG. Could be a number of reasons. Post a pic if you can. If nothing else, some of us like to look at N frames.:D

I stand corrected, as I made a mistake on the DOB of the
S&W model 28. Looking quickly at the book, I transposed
some figures incorrectly; resulting in the post that stated
70-72. :( Our friend Dinosaur is correct, as 1979
would be the date of manufactuer. :D Sorry for the
incorrect text!

FootNote: Quite frankly, even in my incorrect post I was
wrong; it should have read from serial number N1 thru
N60000, not N6000.

Best Wishes,

Thanks. I have a digital camera, but I'm not sure how to post pictures to this forum. I'll try to figure it out unless you all some directions. Thanks again.

I just plug my camera into the video port and then hit reply. Then I click on the camera image and voila! If I can do it anyone can.

There`s also a S&W forum www.smith-wessonforum.com that you might like to check out. However I have to warn you, if you join especially now that you have the taste for N frames, you might become like me. There isn`t a day that goes by where I`m hunting and scheming to get my hands on another one!:banghead: :D

Where`s C.R. Sam btw? He`s usually front and center on these Smith questions.

I've got a possible trade coming. John likes a Colt revolver I own and he's thinking about trading me his 28 for the Colt. I'm also debating. The great thing is we've been friends since college and the trade is no big deal. You're right ,I've got a taste for the N Frames now.

I love my 28-2,fun to shoot, tough as nails and accurate.
