My Holy Grail

It's only $1843, kids ice cream money. lol

Wasn't there a Colt revolver that hit $30K on Gunbroker in the last week or two?

My grail rifle is a Winchester 71, and handgun, probably a ruger GP100 44 special. Though I'd settle for a smith 696.

I saw two completed auction for the same model on different sites that ended around $2400

Years ago I had a Lew Horton .41 mag. Sold it, probably for a few hundred bucks which would have been the market then. Makes you wonder about selling relatively rara/unusual guns.

I paid less that that (total) for a New In Box M66-1, New In Box M58 and New in Box M27-2. What does Lew do to these that jacks them up so much?
Exclusively orders a low number of each one and they’re available from LH for a limited time.

I guess it is the factory produced rarity that really drives the cost.

Stay safe.

John Ross used to do the same. S&W PC required 500 examples to be made and bought outright. The JRC 500's were made in this minimum quantity, with 250 in stainless and 250 in black. So i suppose at least color changes could be done within a 500 minimum order.

The S&W Performance Center guns are exquisitely crafted. Very pleased with my JRC 500. PC guns keep going up in value.

The JRC500s go for about the same as the LH above did. JRA (black) and JRC (stainless) 0001 serials sold in 2019 for a bit over $4k and $3k respectively. It wasnt long ago that the still unsold JRCs were available through John. Not many people wanted a 5" un-braked 500 S&W...

I read about the hoopla associated with some folks buying a gun directly from Mr. Ross. Those threads took up volumes of internet bandwidth .

Lipsey’s and TALO Distributors (For a group out of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, if I’m not mistaken?) have made deals with Ruger for exclusive special issues all the time. Some of these guns are really cool.. and almost always sell at least MSRP or higher.

Come to think of it, I think my 5.5” Flattop .44 Spl. Blackhawk was originally a Lipseys catalog item. I bought it very lightly used off GB a few years back.

Stay safe.

Can you elaborate just a bit?

I've seen red and blue wranglers available only through lipseys before. The red caught my eye.

Many large gun distributors will have special runs made with mostly cosmetic changes. Like different grips, color, or barrel lengths. They are not really worth a premium over basic models of the same gun. Maybe 10% over. TALO, Lipsey, and Davidson's are some distributors that do this. Then they distribute them out to their dealers.

Lol yeah, ive read and partook in them too. Always defending the gun, but not JR himself. I got mine second hand. The gun, built by the S&W PC is one of the best constructed and functioning guns i own... Which includes some really sought after Colts. Fit and finish is outstanding. Im not a S&W fan, but if the right PC model (like the LH model above) pops up for a good price (not like the LH lol) i would jump on it.

Not much different than a commemorative model. Same gun, just some things not available on a typical catalog model.

Those "special" runs are a limited number and only available from that distributor. Unless your LGS uses that distributor, they must try and order from the limited stock, most likely promised to their top dealers.

Most are obtained through resale, demanding a higher price because of scarcity.

I acquired my Lipsey's Vaquero from a resale. Got it for normal Vaquero pricing from someone who thought it a typical Ruger.
