Using the LNL AP on some .38special, loading some 158gr lead truncated cone bevel base bullets from Penn. Using a new set of Hornady New Dimension dies.

The seating/crimp die will stick to the bullet and on the downstroke the guide part of the die will fall out of the die still attached to the cartridge and be ejected into the finished bin. So I have to stop the operation, unstick the die, put it back together.... pretty annoying. Happens every 10 rounds or so.
I thought I wasn't expanding enough and was maybe gumming up the die when lube would be scraped off the bullet and lube would make it stick?? Then I thought maybe I have the die set up for too much crimp but when I compared to a factory reload my crimp looks much less. I'm not sure though since I'm a new reloader so I don't have the benefit of experience.
Another thing I thought of was that the little spring/wire that wraps around the die and pokes through the die and catches the seater die guide part might not be protruding far enough to catch the die guide part.

Whatcha think guys?

There should be a little half circle retaining ring (made of wire) in the base of the die to keep the guide part of the die from coming out. It looks like a "C" with a lip on one end that goes into a hole on the side of the die at the bottom. If the clip is missing the die will come apart. If that isn't the problem, call Hornady. They have excellant customer service. 1-800-338-3220

I think mine came with an extra "wire C thing". But I have bought individual dies. Might not have come with an extra in the die sets. Just a thought.

Yep. All mine came with an extra clip as well. It might need springing in some to tighten its grip.
