In request from loonwulf. And to thank him for helping finish this rifle for hunting season thanks again. In early 2004 my dad had John make me a rifle for a hunt we were going on. The rifle is a 1909 Argentine mauser. In 7x57ai .315 neck with a 24in Douglass air gage barrel. 1-9 twist walnut stock fitted to me pachmyer pad the bottom metal has been lightened some thanks to loonwulf a Nikon 3×9-40 scope. And warne rings and bases QD. Ebony forend and grip bolt wing safety. The rifle is under a 1/2 moa gun and fits me good. John was a gunsmith from Milford pa he was ackeys Forman for years and one of the tool and die maker. He moved from Utah and opened in 1958 back to pa. He did lots of work he was one of the main guy for reboring barrels back in the day look in the back of the reloading books and he is referenced in some. In September he finished the rifle for me. John died that November at 87 this is the late rifle he ever finished. I'm proud to have it. Sorry for the really bad pics best i can do right know.and thank u very much loonwulf.

That's a gorgeous rifle, with really cool history, sounds like a heck of a shooter too.
Happy to help!
yes it is hope to get it out this week. I saw one of his 1886 winchester last year for sale in 45/90 for 1100 i only had 1000 ish when i had some money lol. guy did not take it 26in half oct barrel case hardend exhibition grade walnut tang viner sight wish i got it found out later it was one of the guns for his son. his son after john die sold all his guns and moved to mexico:cuss:

my first real rifle was a 98 military sporterized mauser in 7x57 and it didn,t look any where as nice as your rifle. I killed quite a few deer with it using open sights until I could afford to put a 2.5 weaver on it. 154gr RN at 2400 fps.

ya they were the work horses of the day. when i can do my next mauser it will have express sights and maybe claw mounts. in ether 7x57 or 280rem maybe 7x64 brenneke.

1909 Mausers are considered the top surplus Mauser for sporters for a reasons ! The action finish is the smoothests pattern 98 military. The steel was extraordinary in it's composition and heat treating for the time. The bottom metal is the best for sporting purposes ect.

Well finally got the 09 7x57ai. out to shoot. Still having the necks to tight I really need a out side trimmer. First sight in with the new score from loonwulf. Thanks again sir. Used the look down the bore to get on paper fired 2 just to check I did not pull it. Those are th 2 on the left then I used the details to move over fired moved more went to far then hit center. I did just a 3 round group need to save what little powder I have left. good group at .390 ctc the load was 50.3 grains imr 4350 I used the lee diapers just for a quick sight in it was the lee3.70cc one. Scope was on 6 power. John did know how to make the shot he was over 80 when he did this gun.
