I just got the die set. Just set it up this morning. I had just sized the first shell.

This happened

I was able to press the shell out of the carbide sizer and reinstall it in the die. I even ran 50 test loads with it after my make shift repair.

I just used a small center punch and peened the die around the collet to hold it in place.

I emailed LEE customer service with pics. I hope they will replace it. This my first failure of any kind with my LEE equipment

They should.

But you probably could have put it back in with Lock-Tight, let it cure overnight, and used it the rest of your life!!

With no center-punch marks.

I thought about that but it was so loose, I don't know. All of my industrial strength Loctite is at work. I could have silver soldered it at my house but I wasn't sure how the carbide would do with the heat.

I'm assuming that LEE presses this in then crimps the opening a little to captivate it. It didn't get crimped and the tolerances were not close enough even for a press fit.

My repair is ugly but it held

Too bad you didn't measure the ID at both ends of the carbide insert while you had it out. Curious minds want to know. Of course you can still do that, but it would have been super easy with it out.

Lee would have replaced it for you. :)

I hope they still do replace it! I only fixed the one I had so I could accomplish what I had planned to do yesterday

I called Lee customer service since I sent an email with pics last night and hadn't heard anything.

All the lady could tell me is that they did receive my email.

Okay, and?

I have had it happen with a Dillon and a Redding sizer. Stuff happens. The good news is that the reloading companies are super about standing behind stuff.

99.9% sure Lee will replace it.
They replaced a decap pin that I told them it was my fault that it got mangled.
(2 actually due to off center flash holes in GFL/GFI? .223 brass. Tossed brass don't remember if it was L or I)

10000+ round on my Lee 9mm decap die with no issues. I like it better than my Hornady decapper, sizes tighter.

I broke a Lee mold once, then made it worse trying to repair it. Sent them pictures and told them I didn't expect anything but hysterical laughter and a quote for replacement parts. New parts showed up free on my door step a few days later, nary a snicker, (that I heard):D. Lee has done right by me.

I've only had to contact them a few times, both regarding presses that hadn't been made in years.

Took a couple days to get a reply to my email, and about the same amount of time for new parts to show up at my door, free of charge.

I had always heard that Lee had outstanding CS. Thats why I spent a good bit of money on all Lee equipment. The lady I talked to was very nice just really couldn't give me a solid answer.

I will be patient and see what happens.

I can still use the die I have, its just when you buy something new you want it to work the first time you use it and not have to work on it! All of my 6 other die sets from Lee are just fine.

Their limited lifetime warranty is for "normal" use manufacturing defects.

Had you not modified the die by using the center punch, Lee would have covered the carbide sizer pulling out of die body (and that's probably the reason for the delayed determination).

I would call Lee customer service and send an email referencing this thread since you have picture evidence of carbide sizer having pulled out with "normal" use. I have suggested other members reference THR threads/posts in the past when they had customer service/warranty issues and a picture is worth a thousand words. ;)

Personally, I have found Lee customer service to be excellent with very friendly ladies answering the customer service lines.

I sent pics to Lee customer service on Sunday.

I got email confirmation today that my new die is shipped and on its way.

This was my first experience with Lee CS, it's a lot like Ruger CS, impressive!

Lee customer service is top notch. All they ask for is a picture, as proof, and you will get a new one, no further questions asked, they won't even ask for the old one back... I love doing business with them, they stand behind their products.

Plus, they don't cost an arm and a leg, and a .....

Me too!

I went with Lee from the beginning because I heard they stand behind what they make. Hoping I would never have to use the warranty, but now that I have, I'm very satisfied with my decision.

I think the only thing that isn't Lee is the shell holder, digital scales and tumbler. I just bought a Lee single stage for de-capping not in the pic.
