Our paper published a column by Bonnie Erbe, which was typical anti-gun, playing to the emotions drivel. I never imagined the paper would print it, but they did.

Guns not to blame for mass killings

I am literally appalled that the Herald and News would run such drivel as the column by Bonnie Erbe on April 19.

It is these same gun control advocates who are causing these massacres.

If Virginia Tech had not banned students and teachers from lawfully carrying guns, with a permit, this massacre probably would not have happened.

This is not the first time, and almost always happens in a "gun-free" zone, where killers will readily bring in their weapons, but ordinary citizens (such as off-duty police officers) are forbidden to carry self-defense tools. The list has grown:

  1. Virginia Tech: gun-free zone.
  2. Trolley Square (Salt Lake City, Utah): gun-free zone.
  3. Amish schoolhouse: gun-free zone.
  4. Columbine: gun-free zone.
The list goes on and on. If these "safe" areas really worked, why then do so many shootings occur in "gun-free" zones?

Criminals and killers use the zones as safe havens for their activities, safe for them, but deadly to their victims.

Apparently there is not much that can be done about criminals that are intent on taking lives.

We have to stop the anti-gun crowd from taking away our constitutional right to carry a weapon. To have the opportunity to protect ourselves and loved ones, and stop the anti-gun coalition from turning decent respectful, law abiding citizens, and children into victims.

As far as her rant about the National Rifle Association: The NRA is made up of millions of people like me, who grouped together to promote firearm safety, and to protect our Second Amendment right to possess firearms.

Nice letter. Good work.

Do you have the paper's email address for those of us who would like to commend the paper on printing your rebuttal?

Thanks.

The person to contact is: Opinion Editor, Pat Bushey [email protected]

They also published another pro-gun letter to the Editor last week. So far no anti-gun letters.:)
