My limited experience with the 1911...

I put the new slide lock in and it is like new!

The barrel bushing was easy for me... the L213 is similar. I was not aware of the "take down notch" and lined it up similar to the smith's I have where the hold notch gets lined up with the rear of the slide lock pin....

But, it is all better now!

I just got back from the range and I can honestly say, I get it! I wanted a plain full size 1911 to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't have a .45 so since it was the 1911's birthday (year) I thought why not. After 100 rounds of cheap (oxymoron) range ammo I was amazed at how well the gun points and gets back on target and how light the felt recoil is. This gun is smoother shooting than any other gun I own including revolvers with the exception of my 22's. It is my first .45 and my first 1911. Now I'm wondering why I didn't get one sooner!

Great! Now, try out a Hi Power, the other great handgun designed by Browning. Between the two there isn't a reason for any other pistol.

Eh. There are some very good 9mm's out there. The Sig 226, for example, is a classic in its own right. It was my first gun and still one of my fav's.

For that matter, when it comes to 45's, the Sig 220 gives the 1911 a run for its money.. (note: i own 3 1911's and 0 sig 220's)

Mcdonl, it's easy enough to check the plunger to see if it's sticking. Remove the slide lock pin and try pushing the plunger with a small bit of wood. If it goes in smoothly and snaps out equally smoothly with no apparent drag then it's fine. But if you bent the arm of the slide lock pin it may not be sitting correctly on the plunger and that may be the resistance you're feeling.

You know, it's steel and steel can be bent BACK into shape just as easily as it was bent OUT of shape. Perhaps with the aid of a small square and the original rubber mallet you could tweak it back into perfect condition.

Hi Power

Must resist another handgun...Must resist another handgun...Must:uhoh:

You should seriously consider a Hi Power. I could never figure out what all the fuss was about with them. But I bought my wife one and after my first trip to the range, I'm hooked. Easily the sweetest shooting 9mm I've ever shot. I'm still not fully in love with the look of the gun, but it starts to grow on you after a while. But really, I don't care how it looks consider how good it feels to shoot it!
