Went to our local community safety meeting council police youth workers and locals talk about whats happening. Theres free coffee and biscuits and some stuff gets done eventually:banghead:
the local crime report stats for the last quarter are presented deeply pathetic 4 break ins person did them caught 3 cases of criminal damage one drunk and a firearm seized.
said firearm was a realistic replica capable of firing potential lethal plastic pellets:fire:
aka a cheap airsoft spring pistol not exactly sure how you can kill someone with a plastic bb

I'm sure the police just figured that if the plastic pellet was fired and it in fact hit someone it might cause them to die laughing, or perhaps slip and fall causing a very serious injury or perhaps death, I mean it could happen..
I'm sure they were just doing it for the good of everyone, or perhaps it was just stupid on their part, yes that could be it also.

Or they're in bed with the people that want to ban all firearm-like objects. Police are now on the record saying that airsoft guns are potentially lethal, thus making them much easier to ban.

I'd just love to get those cops in court and ask where they got their degree in balastics from. I also would like to ask what their expertise is and where the documentation of any deaths or even serious injuries other than an eye injury is....nothing I'll bet...

Actually, no. I would classify some airsoft guns as potentially lethal. There is a large subset of airsoft players that have airsoft guns that can fire at velocities of up to 600 FPS, and there's actually many fields that allow players to use 500+FPS guns with special rules. It's NOT safe under any circumstances, of course, but it's allowed (why airsoft in general is a LOT less safe than paintball; moronic rules like this).

Someone on a paintball forum I frequent was trying to sell a "sniper pistol" in the buy/sell/trade section. That forum does not support airsoft, but it was general buy/sell/trade. He advertised that the pistol could shoot 600 FPS. I was a moderator at the time, and I personally pulled his auction and told him he was not allowed to sell it because it was a dangerous device that was simply not safe to play with.

How dangerous are these things? Well, we know a Daisy airgun at 650 FPS shooting a .177 lead pellet can be potentially lethal at close range if you hit someone in the head. There was at least one recorded instance where someone was shot in the temple, the pellet penetrated, and they died. I calculated that a 6mm pellet of average weight from one of these airsoft guns would have a sizeable fraction of that energy (don't remember the percentage. It was a long time ago).

After I did the math, we put a hard cap and banned even the discussion of shooting airsoft guns above 450 FPS. That was considered the maximum safe velocity, and even that's rather lenient considering I've seen pictures of pellets shot at 400 FPS get completely embedded in soft areas of the body like earlobes. I'm talking 100% under the skin.

Sorry to hear, woody. Not sure what to say, except that if you ever want to visit us, specifically Florida, come on over :D

I saw a Cop show a few weeks ago. They arrested a female drug dealer at her house and showed off the High-Point 995 carbine they seized. They described it as another assault rifle off the streets. :p

Ugh. I just commited a SERIOUS crime last night when I fired about 1,000 nails out of my pneumatic nail gun. They are technically illegal under the "firearms" laws here. What part of FIRE do these idiots not understand?   :banghead:

I'm honestly thinking about going to a construction site with nailguns in use and calling the police, to show them how stupid they are.

potential lethal plastic pellets
Sounds like our anti gun bunch, they just leave out that you have to eat 1000 of them at once before lethal sets in.

I don't see in your post anything that specifies under what circumstances the "firearm" was seized. Perhaps it was used in a crime? Perhaps it was otherwise used irresponsibly? Twice while in LE, I "seized" pellet-firing guns from underage pukes due to their irresponsible and dangerous actions with them at the time (one of them I drew down on before identifying him and his "weapon".) In both cases, the "guns" were kept in my locker until a parent came down and picked them up. On another occasion, another officer witnessed some pukes in one car fire a paintball gun at the occupants of another. The officer was too far back to see what kind of gun had just been thrust out the window (and it was after 9PM.) A felony stop was conducted, with me and two more officers as backup. The shooter got a break the size of Texas in only having the gun seized (I don't know if he got it back; wasn't my call.) Because there were no arrests, only the seizure would have shown up on a "police blotter" report like the one you mentioned, woody.

Perhaps...although my guess would be the "crime" was something like shooting said gun. In my town, it's illegal to fire a FIREARM, a BB gun, an airsoft pistol, sling shot, and even a nailgun. Simply firing one of those things, quite harmlessly, could result on confiscation.

I think target shooting with my BB gun in the garage is probably a jailable offense.

It was taken off a teenager who was messing about with it on the street fair call and totally justified imho. Nobody can tell the difference between a real glock and an airsoft one at any sort of distance.
Now an expensive airsoft gun you could make dangerous or ones brought in country's with out health and safety rules  But cheap bb guns are classed as toys in the UK.
not potentially lethal bb guns.
Police loathe them in Brighton as 90%of calls about people with guns turn out to be teenage boys with cheap airsoft guns.
due to our laws anything that resembles a firearm and causes distress can be classed as a firearm for the purposes of charging someone:(

Hello, haven't fully established exactly how powerful it was, though on this side of the water it can be easily bought as over-powerful. Don't know all the facts either...I think though that 9mnths for posessing an air-rifle, not parading down the highstreet with it either, it was hid or in with his fishing tackle or something when his lady shopped him. When more haeneous and violent crimes get a slap and a discharge...makes me wonder....and despair.
Not stealing thread there Woody, same country same laws there is common ground in that at least, did you see this by the way?

you know, all of us in the U.S.A. take our firearm rights so much for granted. but seriously folks, if the new administration has it their way, this is a good example of what it is going to be like here in a few short years. woody, man, i feel for you! and all the others out there who live in "gun controlled" places. i dont know why there is this blatent hatred towards guns, or how to stop it. i do know, if we keep electing public officials that have this veiwpoint, we all are going to be in woodys position.

My daughter asked for an airsoft for Xmas, I was all set to buy her an UZI replica with full auto fire. Then it occured to me that a cop could mistake it for the real thing and shoot her. So now I'm looking for an airsoft Star Trek Klingon gun replica.

Thos airsoft replicas actually are dangerous for kids when you think about it.

I used to play with airsoft a lot but anymore I just go shoot the real thing. BTW, there is nothing remotely lethal about airsoft. You would have to try pretty darn hard to even draw blood with about 90% of the models out there. Anyways ya I find it funny they called it lethal, unless it wasn't airsoft.

You should sleep a lot easier now knowing that deadly weapon is off the streets. Hopefully it will be promptly destroyed so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands again:rolleyes:
