ok, shooting a m77 mark2 ss w/kdf muzzel brake reg barrel..i have put many boxs of shells thur it and ALLWAYS have a sorry group..went out an got some more boxs of differnt wt's etc... but instead of shooting them i sent the gun back to ruger they put a new "front mounting screw"and it still WILL not shoot any ammo in a group ...UNTILL i used the "40 gr v max molys" it will now group under a inch at 100yds (5 shots) ... ALL the other rounds are 3 inchs ..60 gr,55gr etc any of u have a rifle that only shoots WHAT it wants to? / why?

Welcome!
I reload for my M77 in .22-250. For too long it wouldn't group well. Then I finally experimented with bullet seating depth and......... Yahtzee ....now it's a tack driver. 55 gr Nosler BT's with 36 H-380gr and CCI primers.

the ruger 77 is notorious for being an absolute crap shooter, until you take the time and patience to find out what it wants. consider yourself lucky, not even rimfires have the accuracy kinks a 77 can have.

This is what has stopped me from buying one. I think that Ruger has a bit going for the 77 but I'm not a fan of the triggers on them out of the box and I just hate to buy something in that price range that is as potentially picky as the 77 can be. Glad to hear you found a load that does work.

I have had similar problems with my Ruger 270. I think I find an ammo it likes, and then it starts spraying shots randomly. I think I am going to have the barrel free floated.

My CZ was the same way unfortunately. Only likes one powder! :( Luckily, it'll shoot several bullets well with that one powder, and POI is all within about 1/2 of eachother between loads. Just keep playing with it. It'll come.

My m77 markII in 30-06 is not picky at all and will group under a inch most of the time if I do my part it is definitely my go to hunting rifle...
