The land of the Alamo!
Last Fall I read a review in a gun rag about the Stoeger Cougar 8000 9mm pistol. (This is a clone of the Beretta Cougar, the same gun that Beretta used to make before they transferred the machinery and manufacturing rights to Stoeger in 2004.) Largely because of what I read in that article, I soon after bought a Stoeger Cougar 8000. It is, in my opinion, the sweetest shooting nine that I've ever fired. Absolutely wonderful!

Not long ago, I fired a friend's CZ 75B 9mm. While I still like my Cougar the best, I found that I enjoyed shooting that CZ a lot. I decided to see if I could find one in nearly new condition. I looked at various guns that were for sale, both locally and online, and spotted an online ad of a 75B chambered in .40. On the face of it, I had no real interest in buying a .40. But included with it, was a fitted 9mm barrel, so that by simply changing the barrel and the magazine, you could shoot either .40 or 9mm.

I pondered on that possibility a bit, and decided to buy it. Up until a month ago, I had fired a few .40's, but they had all been polymer-framed guns. I was not attracted to the .40, based upon those experiences that I had had with the .40's of friends. But I got to thinking, with *this* gun, I could shoot 9mm in it most of the time, and switch to .40 only occasionally just when I wanted to. I bought the gun, have now fired several hundred rounds of each caliber through it, and I'm extremely happy with it! :D

An added plus is that my wife (who I knew enjoyed shooting 9) has shot the gun in both 9 and .40, and now we're both thrilled with this gun! (That steel frame makes all the difference in felt recoil.) You just never know what you might run on to... This "40 over 9" has indeed become my "fun gun" and I'm so pleased to have found it out there. ;)

Happy shooting!

'stoked with my CZ!'

Well, it looks like I'm the only one who thinks that my conversion gun is a winner. No problem -- I can hardly wait to get back to the range with it and enjoy it in both calibers! :D

It seems that everytime I come across an ad that says something like "the most fun I've had shooting, etc..." it ends up being about a CZ. That pistol didn't happen to belong to Bob Hazel did it? If so you are lucky I was looking long and hard at purchasing that from him. CZ's are contagious though you better watch out. I am looking to get a CZ-82 and a 97 and a...:)

Weight

It all comes down to weight. The more a handgun weighs, up to a point... helps reduce recoil and makes for faster followup shots.

I shoot "heavy metal" like a full-size 1911 better than I do the lighter handguns.

I shoot metal better than polymer too, but I have a couple of Glocks and the 19 is my carry.

Sometimes you want less weight. ;)

those cz75's are very cool. if i was looking for another 9mm, i would definitely think about one.. :)

I gots a itty bitty 75 (pcr) and a big o' 75 (97). I love both of them. And yes, CZs tend to breed!

Phee asked:

Yessir, that is indeed the gun that I purchased from Bob Hazel. What amazes me most of all about it is that he had some very nice photos of the gun that were displayed when he posted the gun for sale. More than two weeks went by before I first happened upon the ad. It blows me away that this gun sat there in cyberland for that long without someone pulling the trigger on it, so to speak. ;)

Phee made the observation:
If so, you are lucky...

I feel extremely fortunate to have gotten such a gun, and I'm certain that this one is still going to belong to me when they plant me out there on the prairie to take that dirt nap. Just a wonderful, wonderful gun that several of my friends (and family members) have now shot in both calibers, and everyone who has shot it absolutely loves the thing! (Maybe I should rush out and buy some CZ stock!) :D

Phee, I regret that you did not get to enjoy this one. I am indeed fortunate and blessed to have it. The mailman just now dropped off some new mags that I bought for it, so I'm good to go!

Right on, juk!

A few months ago, I came very near buying a PCR. But I ended up going with the Stoeger Cougar 8000 instead. Not long ago, I was fortunate to get to shoot some CZ guns owned by a friend. I was absolutely astounded at how accurately I fired his 97B. That is one sweeet gun! I can definitely foresee one of those bad boys coming to live in my house before too long. :D

Me too. Especially after dealing with Bob on a holster. Great guy to purchase deal with and a great deal.

No regrets warranted. I am glad though that someone got it that is going to enjoy it as much as it deserves. Now go put some lead through it :)

I like my CZ 75B a lot more than I thought I would picking it up to have a
9mm Luger to save some bucks ammo wise at the range and cut back on .45 ACP.

Funnest gun... S&W 617 10 shooter...just is

CZ-75B SA.

Single action trigger makes a 75 even better. But the 9mm scarcity...... Got to shoot it yesterday though.

If I had a .40/9mm I could go buy decent .40. Gun shop has plenty of it, not much else.

When I first bought this "40 over 9" beauty, my thinking was that I would be shooting mostly 9mm in it, and only occasionally switch over to shoot some 40. Those thoughts have changed. While I keenly enjoy shooting 9mm, shooting .40 in this gun is an absolute dream! And seeing how it eats the .40 handloads that I've put together for it is an added plus. ;)

A new delight with this fun gun was experienced yesterday as I shot bowling pins at 30 yards. Great fun, that! :D
