Last Fall I read a review in a gun rag about the Stoeger Cougar 8000 9mm pistol. (This is a clone of the Beretta Cougar, the same gun that Beretta used to make before they transferred the machinery and manufacturing rights to Stoeger in 2004.) Largely because of what I read in that article, I soon after bought a Stoeger Cougar 8000. It is, in my opinion, the sweetest shooting nine that I've ever fired. Absolutely wonderful!
Not long ago, I fired a friend's CZ 75B 9mm. While I still like my Cougar the best, I found that I enjoyed shooting that CZ a lot. I decided to see if I could find one in nearly new condition. I looked at various guns that were for sale, both locally and online, and spotted an online ad of a 75B chambered in .40. On the face of it, I had no real interest in buying a .40. But included with it, was a fitted 9mm barrel, so that by simply changing the barrel and the magazine, you could shoot either .40 or 9mm.
I pondered on that possibility a bit, and decided to buy it. Up until a month ago, I had fired a few .40's, but they had all been polymer-framed guns. I was not attracted to the .40, based upon those experiences that I had had with the .40's of friends. But I got to thinking, with *this* gun, I could shoot 9mm in it most of the time, and switch to .40 only occasionally just when I wanted to. I bought the gun, have now fired several hundred rounds of each caliber through it, and I'm extremely happy with it!
An added plus is that my wife (who I knew enjoyed shooting 9) has shot the gun in both 9 and .40, and now we're both thrilled with this gun! (That steel frame makes all the difference in felt recoil.) You just never know what you might run on to... This "40 over 9" has indeed become my "fun gun" and I'm so pleased to have found it out there.
