This thing was a good trade. . . . .

What I started with, bland ole 917V with the wood stock and the heavy barrel. . .

What I did:

-Remove the warning

-Install Karsten Model B Cheek Piece

-Do simple trigger job on factory parts (~3#)

-Recrown the muzzle

-Remove front sling stud, open up the hole and fill it with hardwood dowel

-Install dual front sling studs out front, with nuts, not the wood screw flavor (more about this later)

-Build a pillar/escutcheon for the front action screw from aluminum bar (screw on wood is just bad math IMHO)

-Glass bed the action, from just in front of the tang to the front of the recoil lug recess

-Bead Blast barreled action and reblue

-Refinish stock in black/grey/white texture paint http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=27

-To utilize the dual front sling studs (10 X 32tpi) built an adapter plate from aluminum, to allow this stock to ride my 3" Protector front bag like my BR rifle

RESULTS :;)

I had limited time at the range today, but got the rifle sighted in, and tried 3 brands of ammo at 50 and 100 yards. Wind was gusting 5-20mph crossing left to right :(

All Groups are 5 shot, measured with Dial Caliper - bullet diameter =CTC measurment

Hornady 17 GR Vmax

50 Yards-----------.495

100 Yards----------.575

Federal Premium 17 GR Vmax

50 Yards------------.979

100 Yards----------1.270

CCI 17 GR Vmax

50 Yards------------.469

100 Yards----------1.261

FWIW, Rifle is averaging sub .300" 3 shot groups at 100, and sub .700" 5 shots at 100 yards

Not bad for a new/unfired gun, rifle now has 70 rounds down the pipe :D
Cannot wait for the rimfire egg shoots to start up!!!

The Glass is a Weaver 6.5-20X44 40/44 Riflescope, and the bases are factory, the rings are Leupold Rifleman Highs

***Hindsight, the ONLY complaint about the Weaver 40/44 is the very limited adjustment range, perfect for a rimfire to be sighted in at 100, but wouldn't put one on something that I need to click back and forth between 100 and 500. Glass in this Weaver is top notch, and very very very close to my Vortex Vipers. Should have put Burris Sig Zee rings on this build, at least would suggest it with this scope ;) GREAT for $170!!

Nice job. I don't have one in .17 but I have a Mark II BWTVS and a Mark II TR that are fun to shoot groups with at the range. I want a TR in .17 at some point.
