My new AR-15 Build

Good choice on the UBR stock, I'm a big fan of it. The Geissele as well.

The only changes I would suggest are a Hogue Overmolded grip and the BCM Gunfighter charging handle. I use them exclusively. The Raptor CH looks interesting but the BCM is bombproof.

Should I leave the cheek piece green?

Yes! The contrast looks slick. What did you use to dye the UBR stock, and what was the process? The end result looks pretty even.

And since this is an AR (and choices are unlimited), you're gonna hear conflicting opinions on everything.

I for one much prefer the MIAD grip you have to the Hogue grip. I've never been a fan of the "tacky" feel of overmolded stuff, and sometimes I feel it actually hinders weapon manipulation.

The BCM Gunfighter charging handle is excellent, but by the looks of it (and other reports I've read) the Raptor charging handle is very nice indeed. It ought to be, because it ain't cheap!

I would like to take a moment and thank everyone on this forum for being so great and willing t share their opinions and advice on my build. I appreciate a forum that instills the properties of enabling people instead of silencing them. For supporting the individual and not the site sponsors. Thanks to the moderators for all the hard work they do walking the fine line of authority. Thank You.

that's a real good looking set-up so far. what are you looking for in sights? irons or optic?

I really have not made up my mind yet. Part of me wants to do just irons. Another part of me wants to do a eotech or a aimpoint... Just not sure yet.

That upper looks an awful lot like the Armalite spr mod 1

Do you know why? Aero Precision is a manufacturer. They manufacture lowers and uppers for a multiple of companies. Look at that mark-up... Whoa...

Dunno if these are great deals or not. They are at the LGS. If they'd help you, I'll get contact info

Thanks Redneck, but I still need a barrel and all that goes with it. I have everything else now, except Sight(s), Barrel, Muzzle Device, Gas Tube, and Gas Block.

Barrels seem to be the only things not coming back online yet. Waiting and saving is what I'm doing for now...

So I'm planning this AR to be a fast acquisition platform. Mostly within 100 yards. I have 2 questions?

What Mid-Length barrel would you suggest?

and

What optics or iron sights?

There are tons of great options for barrels out there. Since you seem to be looking for a ~100 yard rifle, any chrome-lined barrel with a 1:7 twist should do fine. You can't go wrong with Daniel Defense or FN. Plenty of other equally-good options as well.

For BUIS, look no further than Troy Folding Battlesights. They are the best. Their fixed sights are great too, but since you've indicated you are looking for an optic as well, sounds like you might want the folders.

For a ~100 setup, it's hard to beat the quality or value of an Aimpoint PRO red dot. IMO, the bigger tube should help with faster acquisition at close ranges, versus the various micro-dots.

Hey Guys,
So here are the barrels I'm looking at. Any suggestions? Reviews?

I do not remember. Before the craziness the entire upper with a premium PSA BCG was around $500. I really liked mine, but gave it to my son before they passed a law that would require paperwork to do so. Thankfully that never came about.

I kept my BCM upper with the A2 profile, and while it rocks, the "lighter profile" barreled PSA upper balanced so nicely.

This is with Magpul forearms. Any other configuration would obviously change the balance.

Ordered my barrel tonight. I went with a Daniel Defense Cold Hammer forged 16 inch Mid-Length. Will post pics when it arrives.

Now... What Muzzle Device and why?

How about A Gas Block? Any preferences out there?

My Daniel Defense cold hammer forged 16 inch Mid-Length barrel came in... Me very happy...

Sweet looking rig, that barrel will do you fine. In the optics realm I'd agree and say an Aimpoint P.R.O. is an awesome value; 30,000 hour battery life, weighs the same as a compM2 and comes with its own mounting hardware all for much less than any of the comp series optics. I can't find what Aimpoint skimped on but for the money, it's hard to beat.

For the muzzle device, if you're looking to save some money I'd say the Yankee Hill Machine Phantom is a great pick. They're inexpensive and have decent length. The flash suppressor model has incredible flash dampening and the muzzle brake model does a good job although a Battle Comp might do a *slightly* better job but for a whole lot more money. As for your gas block, I'd think you'd need a low profile model for that handguard. YHM or Troy make solid, reliable blocks, kinda hard to mess one up.

Well, it has come down to the last few things before final assembly.

Up next:

Muzzle Device: VG6 Gamma 556

Sight: Aimpoint PRO

Then all I will have to do is load it up and hit the range. This has been a ton of fun.

Great work so far. She s really coming around. The more I look at that upper the more I think I need one..lol. Great build so far, buddy. Can't wait to see the finished product...

Well, they are backordered, but I decided to go with the VG6 Gamma Muzzle Brake. Form what I have seen and read it is gonna be very sweet. And that was the last piece before assembly. Whoa.
