My new FAL

Congrats. I just sold a rifle that wasn't fitting me well, and will have a FAL on the way next week. I plan on cutting mine down to 16" for a nice, short carbine.

Sooooo - DSA SA-58 18" carbine, correct? Looks nice. I see you got the Type 2 upper receiver, which is probably the best kind (matter of opinion). Enjoy! Set the gas regulatory fairly closed (more gas on action) to start with, like position 2, since you may get the empty case reinserted into the chamber and a bit of a jam if you set the regulator too open. (Ask me how I know this.)

have you fired it yet? how do you like it?

they're on my list too..

Nice rifle! Do your best to snag atleast 20 mags(if you haven't already), they are just going up in price right now! I took the 4-16X30 scope off it(the accuracy was not worth the magnification), and put an Eotech up there. Best thing I could have dne for her:). Gonna get a new 4X magnifier to mount behind it instead;).

The FAL is a beautiful piece of art, as well as a functional battle rifle. I could stare at mine for hours end, and often do:D!

Still 2 Many Choices!?

I so want a FAL. But I have a Saiga (x39) that serves my short-range purpose, and don't want another caliber...

Is that compensator on upside-down, or does it have ports that we can't see in the photos?

That's a Belgian-style FAL flashhider. Despite the appearance it's a flash hider, not a compensator or brake. There are ports in 4 positions around the device, 90 degrees apart (symmetrical). I haven't tested mine in low light but they're supposed to be an effective flash suppressor, and they do not have any brake/compensator properties that I can detect.

I really wish I would have bought one when you could get them for $500.

I don't think the DSA SA-58 was ever anywhere close to $500. I think they were introduced somewhere in the $1200-1400 range and have since gone up a bit. You can still find new and used Century FALs in the $700 range, but you need to know what you're looking at and what compromises you're accepting if you choose to buy one. (Some of the used Century FALs were built on IMBEL receivers and are quite decent.)
