I stopped thinking about it and decided to get one a NIB glock 17 bone stock w/ 3 17 round mags, 470 w/ military discount. Im psyched to have it and looking at ammo prices it will supplement me practicing with it and my 21sf which is my carry. I bought this as my range/plinking gun but plan t make some additions to it nothing to big just a set of sights, maybe a mag well and extended slide release. But I would really like a dr optic or something comparable and a extended magazine release. I saw a 17L with these and it was impressive. but If I dont add most of these things, Im still good with just extended slide release and some good sights in case I get to carrying it , with that said who makes the best self defense ammo if I should chose to carry it, and where to get ammo buy the case to feed this thing and any modifications that you all suggest to my new addition would be great thanks.:)

I hear good things about the X/S tritium big dot on the Glocks.

Don't forget the 30+ mags while they are still legal.

If it were me, I'd pick up a light too.

As for SD ammo, I carry Fedral Hydra-Shocks in my 26.

Corbon is supposed to make some good stuff too.

Great choice on a mighty fine weapon.

Check out Winchester Ranger and Federal HST for some of the best self defense ammo available. I carry my Glock 19 loaded with Winchester Ranger 127gr +P+, but am considering switching to the standard pressure 147gr loading in the near future.

I think Glocks are ugly, plastic, un-charismatic, pieces made by a rejected curtain rod manufacturer :uhoh: ...................and I own two and they are mighty fine tools. As much as it pains me they are some fine fightin' arms and I also own a 17 and 26. They shine in 9mm. :neener:

I have a question

Is +p ammo or +P+ ammo safe in glocks I was told they were not buy the gun store clear today , Is that true ?, Im a glock armorer and never even asked ? silly me.

+1 on the Federal HST and Ranger loads. The HST is a little cheaper so you can practice with it more. If your pistol will work with the 147gr HST, that would be my first pick.

Stay away from the Federal Hydra-Shoks. They are an outdated and ineffective design (by todays standards). The problem with Hydra-Shoks is they plug easily preventing them from expanding. Basically you end up with expensive FMJ rounds.

+P is safe, but will wear the gun faster. +P+ is not regulated by SAMMI and can be way way hot and in some cases designed only for SMGs. I would not worry about +P in my Glock +P+ I would likely not use or if I did make damn sure the variety in question was indeed ok.

Good to know.

Thanks.

Ummm Hydrashoks don't exactly suck. There are better bullets but when talking handguns, which are pretty ineffective beasts all around, most any high quality defensive ammo will do you fine.

The Glock 17 is one of the best 9mm pistols on the market. I have a 19 and it’s as ugly as a baboon butt. While no beauty queen it is VERY hungry. It will digest the nastiest reloads without a burp. Run through hot loads without complaint. It will load a spent shell casing (seriously). The only thing that will make it stop is if you “limp wrist” it when you practice weak side.

Load it with whatever you like, it can handle it. Cor-Bon makes a good round. Disagree with some of the posters, I like the Federal Hydra-Shock rounds. The Glaser is outstanding if you live in a densely populated area. You can treat it like a rent-a-wreck and it will never fail you.

congrats on the new gun, and welcome to thr. btw i highly suggest that you check out the xs sights they are out standing and in my opinion the best sight system out there to use for defense. they are quick and allow quick follow up shots as well as aiding in hitting moving targets.

Nice piece of plastic, but not purty.

it’s as ugly as a baboon butt.

Glocks look like PERFECTION!!!

Good for you. I am seriously considering a Glock myself after years of railing against how I would not own one, much to my surprise.

Congrats on the G17. Very fine weapon indeed. I got mine a cpl months back for $450 NIB +$20shipping +$20xfer so you did better then me. I've since bought 2 xtra 17rnd mags, a grip plug for that hole in the grip(?), and a shoulder holster that has 2mag holders in it. I also got an IWB holster, but found out I'm too fat to use it comfortably. I use Speer Gold Dot 124gr +p HP's. Good luck with yers.

Great pistol you can't go wrong with a 17, ever. Good move to the 147 HST or Ranger T's. I prefer them over the 127's. Have fun with it.

Nice.

I just bought my first Glock, a 26. I've only owned 3 handguns so far: a Sigma .380, Springfield Ultra Compact HC, and now the 26.

After shooting the Springfield with the single action, I was a bit concerned that there would be quite a learning curve with the 26. Well not anymore! I had a chance to put 150 rounds through 'er this past Sunday. The first mag and I was already hitting on target with fairly rapid fire in around 7 yrds. And I'm pretty much a noob to handguns! The 26 is sublime. A pleasure to shoot, and more accurate than me.

My brother and I both have new 26's, and we had a great day with no FTF's or FTE's.

It was such an easy transition from the 1911 to the Glock that I am already anticipating the next move . . . a G19 or maybe the 17!

Very nice Glock! So shiny and new. I'm sure it will be a great gun for many years to come.

I guess I'm just different than many folks in that I have always thought the Glocks are good looking guns. I've got a G30 and a G23. I really like both of them. I'm an old school revolver and 1911 guy, but I've have a place in my heart for the Glocks:)

Really can't go wrong with a G17. Since your considering upgrading sights, my favorite sights would be the Heinie straight 8 sights. They provide a very crisp sight picture, and the dot over dot setup is very easy to line up.

Otherwise, really not much else needed upgrading on the Glock. These get are very reliable out of the box, tinkering with them (as much fun as it may be) can also be more prone to failures.

A 3.5# connector also helps lighten up the trigger a little bit.

Have fun and enjoy!

Nothing wrong with Hydrashocks. I personally use Speer Gold Dots 124 grain. Sometimes I get +P sometimes I don't. Good looking Glock. Safe shooting.
