Hows this for a real smoker.... Handgun shaped pipe:D

These are quite rare and hard to come by.
As a gun collector and Pipe smoker this fit the bill.

Smoker

Reminds me of the time I put Holy Black in my cousin's Corn Cob Pipe.
Talki about a Whoopin, but it was worth it.
Could have made a Mint , if we had Videos back then.

Many years ago, during my colege days, smokers used to take cigs from any unattended pack in the study areas. My brother and I loaded a few packs with about 1/2" of cannon fuse and waited for the action, almost started a few fires as the smoker tossed the cig from their faces to the carpet or floor. After a week, all packs were left alone.

Years ago I had an apartment neighbor that was ALWAYS bummin smokes.Back then I had one of those Laradoe cigarette machines (makes your own cigs late 70's about) so one day I loaded him up one, with an inch and 1/2 firecracker in it.up near the filter end..We heard it go off in his apartment and after the tobacco settled he said he wondered why it burnt funny when he lit it..Never bummed to many after that and if he did, he checked them first..

Dad hated cigarette thieves, and liked to "spike" his smokes in order to teach the thieves some manners. He'd slide a piece of horsehair (preferably one from the the under side of a mare's tail- think about it.....) into four or five smokes then "carelessly" leave the pack laying out to be found. The trick is to get the hair far enough up in the cigarette that it doesn't burn as soon as the thing is lit; no, better if the fire catches the hair about midway into the first drag.

I college I used to shove some toenail trimmings into cigs just laying around the room. Leave for 5 minutes and they would be gone. Nasty smelling too. It wasn't long before I could leave them out and no one would bum them.

That's a great looking pipe! How is the draw? Shoot I might have to add one of those to my rotation if I come across one! Perhaps I could even carve one out of pipestone, I've been contemplating ordering a couple blocks to make more pipes from. I like working with stone!

People are always bothering me and trying to get me to give them a smoke. I just roll up a bunch of cigarettes with N. Rustica I grew, it's probably the strongest tobacco out there.

On a similar note I've been making my own pipes from catlinite, or pipestone. I got a bunch in Minnesota a few years ago and it sure is great for carving. I have one that has been my regular for a long time, after a while the stone takes up this really nice reddish brown color due to the oils from your hands and that baccer' getting soaked up into the pores of the stone. I'm trying to go for a look similar to what the mountain man had, I want something period correct. I think this one looks something like the one Jim Bridger probably smoked. I made it about a year and a half ago, I sure do love it! IMAG0011.jpg

pipestone, is that similar to soapstone by chance? i had a sculpture class in high school where we carved soapstone for part of the class. thats kinda fun :)

Great links Steve! I might just have to order some pipestone from them sometime, I want to get more and start selling some stone pipe heads or perhaps some completed stone pipes if I can figure out what the law would have to do with it. I'm thinking there needs to be a source out there for good, handmade pipestone pipes that represent what the trappers and mountain men had. That would be most excellent!

Kaeto, once I get some more pipestone I could make you one. I guess the price depends on what you want it to be like, I can carve a custom design for you if you'd be interested.

I should probably show what the stone looks like before it's been well smoked, here's one I've used only once. It's a pretty nice looking pipe, it came out good! I was going for kind of a native American look, I think I succeeded at doing so.

Am I the only one who smokes twist tobacco around here? I like how convenient it is, I don't have to worry about it opening in my pocket or anything. The twist that the pipe is resting on is made from some burly tobacco I grew. I'm kind of a connoisseur of tobacco, I've got a very developed sense of taste and love the complexity of flavors in good tobacco.

I guess it gives a new meaning to putting a gun to your mouth/head.

How was that revolver pipe made? Was it casted?

Just finished making a longer stem! That pipe smokes so darn cool and dry, the smoke is much smoother too! Even with a full bowl of burly tobacco burning full steam it's still a cool smoke, and my homegrown burly smokes pretty hot.

I just finished making a second tobacco wallet like the one in the first photo I posted, it is just the right size that I can fit a full plug of chaw terbaccer' in there. I might put a bone or antler bead on the end of the cord that is used to close the pouch, or perhaps a turquoise bead.
