I picked this up today. It appears to be an early Norinco SKS judging by the markings but I'm not much of an expert on SKS's to be honest. I figured it would make a nice shooter and the price seemed fair at $275, especailly with how crazy things are out there right now. All the numbers match and the cleaning kit was inside the stock, the bayonet is missing so I'll try and track one down eventually.

Good deal. $259 isn't so bad. I recall them going for $129 just a few years ago, but with the run on firearms you're going to see such prices. But for $259 look what you get: an utterly reliable rifle that is fairly accurate and is capable of defense and hunting most game.

Make sure to give us a range update. Congrats!

Looks like it was built in 1976 at factory 0223 judging by my resource. Factories don't mean much at all, if anything. It has a pinned barrel and the correct bayonet would be the cruciform or "spike" type. They are great rifles and I have shot a later Chinese at 200 yards with decent (10") groups. The sights are the worst offender in accuracy. I own four of them and I have never had a single malfunction with any of them.

Enjoy it and buy twice as much ammo as you think you'll need. They're fun to shoot. Stripper clips help out a lot too.

Chinese SKS's in that kind of shape haven't been as low as $129 for decades. $259 is a good price for them today. J&G sales just finished selling off a small newly imported lot of them for around 300 dollars each, and they were in pretty rough shape.

The Norinco SKS's are about as good as SKS's are. Don't sweat the bayonet, it simply adds weight and gets in the way. What you paid is below what I've seen sellers asking at some recent gun shows.
