I picked this Rock-Ola up last weekend. Price was $800 plus shipping. Not bad for a flip sight M1 Carbine. I just love owning guns that were built by a company that made Juke Boxes.............:D

Very nice! Was it a CMP?

I need to buy one that I can actualy shoot, I feel bad shooting my IP.

That has to be one of the most desired Carbines around.

Over twenty years ago I was at the range and a fellow next to me was shooting a Carbine. Seems he had been in the service, carried a carbine, and it took him years to find one. Because his eyes were bad, he had the thing drilled and tapped for a scope.

It looked to be an all original Rock Ola.

What mattered he was having fun slaying cans. :D

It's all Rock-Ola except the stock, safety, bolt and recoil plate. The stock is a Winchester w/ a cartouche. The bolt is SG. Just wish I had a highwood Rock-Ola stock...............:D
Thanks guys..............

That is a good look'n piece of hardware there. Hope you can find a proper stock.

I picked up a Rock-ola a number of years ago right after my sister & brother-in-law had gotten a new juke-box that palys CD with the lights, bubbles and all. I told her that I liked hers so much I got one but it was a bit strange in that it didn't have the lights or bubbles, and only played funeral tunes....... :)

I got the flash hider, sling, oiler, bayonet, and some 5, 15, & 30rnd mags with it.

Great looking carbine, though I believe I would have to bubba it with a late model sight for windage and elevation.

:)

Got any pics of the rear sight up close??? It doesn't look right from here...
It is an earlier style flip-up sight, but I am not sure if it is original if that is what you mean. They are a good bit more rare than the later adjustable sight.

:)

It looks new (too new for a 65yr old carbine) while the trigger housing etc don't, the receiver looks freshly parked as well...Good pics of the sight dovetail area will show what type (if any) stake markings are present....

I'm just saying......

It probably was re-parkerized at it's last arsenal overhaul. They were originally blued. At this point they have all been overhauled so much they have all different types of parts in them.

Then why weren't the early features upgraded at this "last overhaul"? Why was only the receiver parked and not the other parts? If the rear sight was original then it would be the same color park if your theory is true.

The original finish for carbines was not bluing it was park...some components were blued but the receivers were parked.

I only state this because if the carbine was represented as "all original" and it turns out it's not then the seller ripped off the buyer...

Was probably a sight from a different rifle, added to this rifle because it is a rare model in good condition. The front swivel was probably another transplant from a different rifle. It is a fairly common practice for collectors to take the more desirable (earlier) parts and put them on the more desirable rifles. I suspect this is the case WRT this rifle. The most recent owner may have not been the culprit or even aware of the swapped parts, besides I don't believe it was a bad deal at $800.00 regardless of the parts origins. If the OP believes otherwise I feel certain that there are several viewers that will refund his investment in exchange for a Rock-Ola Carbine.

:)

The rear sight is likely repo but if the buyer is happy then thats all that matters....just trying a little education here...

If the OP were to post a picture of it over at the CMP forums we would know for sure.

It looks like an original to me.

If the rear sight looks like it was made yesterday.....it probably was.....

How many minty undinged, non worn "perfect" rear sights have you seen on a carbine that has dings, wear and is not minty?

Again...just pointing out some of the obvious..

Jeremy..............The sight is a real USGI flip sight. Many Carbines were brought home by GIs with little wear. The rifle looks so new because it has a generous coat of Corrosion-X on it. Carbines also had many parts manufactured by different contractors. There parts did not match up exactly. If all the parts matched perfectly I would be very suspicious...........:D
