I'm still a bit of a piker with my 10/22 mods, but this is my toy so far.

Start with one standard blue Ruger 10/22 from yon local gonne shoppe. Add one Revival Industries "electric blue" explorer stock. Mix in a 18" Fluted Blue Match Barrel w/Fire Sights. Cheat on rebuilding the action and slide in a Hornet Custom "B" Trigger Assembly

Stir liberally, clean and take a picture. I haven't had a chance to take her to the range yet, but I hope to do that soon. I may scope or red dot her eventually, but if I do it will have to be with some sort of quickly removable mount. I like those fire sights.

Thanks to Shooter's Discount and Hornet Products for great service. Shooter's tossed a free WeaponKraft recoil buffer in the box with my order, so now I have an extra.

"Did you buy a new gun."

"No honey. I've had this one for a long time. I'm just swapping out some parts."

Assembly process is cat nap approved.

Only, like, everything.

Hey, the receiver is still original. And the bolt. And the screw that holds it to the stock. And uh ... the two pins that hold the trigger assembly into the receiver. That counts, right? :uhoh:

edit: And not entirely untrue. I've had that 10/22 in the closet for several years. I bought the trigger assembly back in April. The stock a couple of months later. The barrel I wanted has been out of stock everywhere until very recently, so that was the final acquisition.

As the parts purchases slowly drift in, under the spousal radar....

Nah. More like "Okay, I feel like messing with it again." The only reason the barrel waited so long is that particular model has been out of stock everywhere until just a couple of weeks ago. GM finally did another run.

Thanks. While I was occupied in the Smallest Room she decided that was a dandy place to set up shop and take a nap. That look when I came back ...

"Whaddaya mean move? :scrutiny: "

Finally had time to take her to the range recently. Got the sights mostly adjusted. The targets are nothing to get excited about, but that's due to my mediocre marksmanship. "What kinda shotgun did that?" describes most of my groups in any case. :uhoh:

I brought along cheap .22 from Remington, Winchester and Federal to test functionality. All three worked fine in the factory 10 round magazine. I also brought along a 25 round Hot Lips and a 25 round Steel Lips magazine from Butler Creek.

Bleah.

The steel lips felt loose and wobby in the mag well and was the least reliable. The hot lips was marginally better, but both of them acted similarly. When fully loaded I might get 2 consecutive shots and then *click*. Manually cycle the bolt and then I can fire again. Sometimes it would cycle a new round in, sometimes not. Usually when it got down to the last 8-10 rounds in the mag it would start feeding reliably. This happened with both the Hot Lips and the Steel lips, but was worse on the Steel Lips.

Any suggestions? Or should I just buy a bunch of factory 10 rounders?

1022 customs are a BALL!!
mine is really cheap to shoot as it likes the federal bulk packed ammo for about $8 for 550... you really should get a couple more factory mags probably.... it is kinda different you have open sights on your 1022 custom.. most have more optics than they really need.. i still have an old simmons 4by 32 .22 mag scope on mine and it does just fine.. (dime sized groups at 50 yrds):D

Yes.

In my experience, aftermarket mags are junk. I bought one for my 10/22. I couldn't get more than 15 rounds in it and it jammed with a few rounds left in it. Couldn't get those few rounds out, and had to toss it out.

The factory magazines are expensive, but they WORK.

very nice :)

I recently "customized" my 10/22, also using an electric blue Revival (yukon extreme) and really like it. I tightened the groups up quite a bit by bedding the action, and stoning down a flat washer to sit between the stock and action, with a hex key takedown screw, the barrel floats about .010" from the sides and .020" from the bottom of the stock. Its definitely cool to see an iron sighted custom.

Factory mags work best, but sometimes you can help aftermarket mags with a little powdered graphite, or teflon drylube. Even factory mags gunk up after a lot of rounds, but they can be taken apart with a hex key and cleaned.

I bought two 25-round butler creek mags for mine. One works 95% of the time, the other jams at least once every 5 or 6 rounds. I guess its either hit or miss with those things, tending to see a few more misses.

Agree to a point.
I went super cheap and put a Swift 3x9 on mine, It was OK at 50 but
when I tried to zero it at 100 yds. the clicks were so inconsistent
I couldn't bring the group into the bull.

Also the gun seemed to like the cheap Winchester ammo better at 100
than the Federal Gold or the Green Tag, go figure?
