Although I've had it since '97 last month was the first I'd actually fired it.It has less than 300 rounds through it.Tonight I had put 89 rounds through it w/o a hitch. On the 90th,a Stinger,it stopped.working.completely.
There is a hook on the rear of the barrel asm below the rr sight. It mates w/a corresponding hook on the frame. The barrels hook broke off!

Has this happened to anyone else?

I'll be calling S&W monday morning to see what they say.

I've read of it happening on some previous posts on several forums, but usually at the lug that attaches to the frame.

My 22A is of the same vintage (first production run), and has well over 60,000 rounds through it. It even went ~25,000 rounds without a cleaning other than a quick wipe with a rag....maybe the infrequent break-down of the pistol has kept me from breaking mine too. However the pistol is now deemed unreliable, and am waiting to make a trip to the woods to bury it forever.

agony,don't bury it!

Mine was grouping right along w/a much more expensive Ruger.I hope that I can get it fixed.I'm even getting used to both the funky mag release and the wierd feeling stocks.

Not unusual.

There's actually quite a few people that have had the same thing happen.

Much as I like my "Arnold Gun", and it is a wondeful accuracy machine,,I have to admit,,,,the things are junk.
