Just thought I'd post some pictures of my new Performance Center S&W 327 TRR8. I've had her for about a week but finally got out to the range yesterday. It was some tough shooting through the falling snow, but it grouped quite well from 25 yards off a rest. Less than 2 inches with both 357mag and 38special ammo. I also blew up a milk jug at 50 yards. Double action trigger is very smooth for quick work. I'll probably try for deer with it come November. Not real sure how practical this gun is. I guess I thought it looked cool and I had to have it. I'm sure most of you guys know how that is. Heading to the bowling alley now to pick up some old pins to knock over.

You should rename your thread "My new Tacti-Cool revolver"
That is a nice piece!
What are you going to mount on that accessory rail??

I've got the TLR-2 from Streamlight so I'll have to give that a go next time the weather-gods shine on Wisco. It works great on my XD-9, but I may have to tweak the elevation a bit. The gun also came with a rail for the top. Any suggestions as to what should go up there?

The attachment point to hang it off of your AR15 :neener: .

Despite any jokes about tacti-cool or not, it seems a nifty revolver; blued, 8-shot, .357 5" barrel is a nice deal, despite any rails hanging off of it. Personally, I can't imagine messing with the balance by attaching a light, but at least you can.

EDIT: I could be wrong, but it looks like the metal for the barrel (two piece barrel, I assume?) is a slightly different finish/color than that of the frame. is that the case, or is it just the way the picture turned out?

Is that the M&P? I thought the TRR8 had the optional light rail, but I could be mixing them up.

You know, I was bad mouthing these things a month ago, but i'm almost settled on one as my next revolver.

If someone told me about a revolver with a rail I'd think it would look pretty stupid. I was wrong, that's a nice gun.

I love mine

I was all "gunned out" a couple of months ago when nothing stoked my interest in wheelies anymore (save for rare N frames I can neither find nor afford). I was attracted to this unusual gun because... well it was different from anything I have in my brace of revos.

I always maintained that revolvers should have 6 shots (and sometimes 5) but shooting this very nice 8 gun made me realize that it was just my old, grumpy curmudgeon side that refuses change that is denying me such nice pieces and not any fault inherent in the gun itself. I can shoot down all seven plates in that steel rack now!

8 Ball, the barrel sleeve is cast that's why it looks a bit different.

The sight is a Trijicon battery less dot sight.

BTW 82,

Is that a TRR8 or an M&P R8? Your bottom rail appears to be fixed to the gun which is a feature of the M&P. TRR8 rails are both detachable. Another difference is that the ejector shroud is see through port and starboard in the TRR8 but not on the M&P.

Trick it up! :) I'm looking to borrow and install someone's AR15 vertical foregrip (for photo purposes only :D )

Even for photo purposes only could get you in a world of trouble, especially in Kali.

That's it, this in now at the top of my list for handgun purposes...

Well our looney legislators haven't banned forward grips on wheelguns yet. But you're right I shouldn't give them ideers.

It's the TRR8, not the M&P. I looked at both and liked the idea of being able to remove the forward rail. Another point of interest: There are two slightly different versions of the 327 TRR8. The only difference is the top rail. Mine came with one that didn't allow the iron sights to be viewed when it was attached. The M&P and current production TRR8s come with a rail that is milled with a groove to allow the open sights to be used. Simple solution--I called the Performance Center and they are going to send me one of the newer rails at no charge. Gotta love S&W customer service.

I just brought my TRR8 home 10 min ago. Can't wait to shoot it. Lots of COOL factor. I'll sight in the iron sights, then TEMPORARILY mount a red dot sight for accuracy testing. Glad to hear it's so accurate..

Thats as Robocop (and I mean that in an entirely comoplimentary way) revolver that exists! Man! That thing is bitchin! Me likes, and probably now have to have one!

One of those would make a great duty gun, but would be tough to find a holster for, especially with a light on it.
I wanted a Retention Level II holster for my 4" Python, and the only maker I could find who had one was Uncle Mike's.

I took home a TRR8 a few weeks ago. I love it. I can reload it almost as fast as my 1911's. With some more practice I think I can at least do it as fast. I am on a N Frame Kick. I also adoptd a Lew Horton 3inch M25 after starting the thread on 3 inch N frames. Now if they would make ths gun with a shorter barrel. Say..... 3 inches. :)

The problem with working at Gander Mountain has been that I owe them money every two weeks. Well at least I get helthcare.

It somewhat saddens me that the barrel "cover" is cast on a performance center revolver from S&W. Lemme guess, the "all forged" version is now a "custom gun", which cost 2x what they did when ALL of them were forged?

<rant off>

I never knew there were multiple railed revolvers like that, only of the TRR8, nor did I know that you could remove the rails. that's not what I need to know..........must....resist....urge for 5" 8-shot .357!!!!

The casting is only on the barrel shroud on the guns that use barrel shrouds. The bulk of S&W revolvers have one-piece barrels. The barrel shroud itself isn't a load-bearing part, so I don't think it'll matter if it's cast. (I wasn't aware that it was.) I don't know if it'd be economical to forge a barrel shroud like that, though.

TRR8 and M&P R8 revolvers have alloy frames, and there's always a slight color difference between an alloy frame and a steel barrel (unless they're both coated with the same finish). There's a difference between the crane and the barrel shroud in the pic, too, and the crane is steel.

Come to think of it, the barrel shroud might be alloy. They are on most of the Scandium guns. Can you test it with a magnet?

Still Waiting

I want one of these little beasts from Russia. Even If I couldn't get it in the Russian caliber .45 Colt/.410 would be fine with me.
