And here is my new pin for the Thompson Machine lower. I made it myself.

Pin005.gif

It weighs in at just over 26 pounds (according to my bathroom scale) ... I havent shot it yet, but for now I put a Millet 4-16x44 scope on it ... we'll see how it does.

I like it. What's the story on the pin??? Funny, I was looking at .50s today at work. This one is sleek...how bad did it hurt$$$?

Oh!...and welcome to THR!

I have to ask... what are you going to use it for? I have often looked at similar rifles and when I look at the cost and how much I would actually shoot it... I decline. Same with boats.

Nice. Why the California lower? Just because a magwell would be useless?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, whats the pricetag on that monster?

He's likely going to shoot it. He'll also probably use it for the same thing I use my boat (and all my guns) for...pouring money into and enjoying every dime of it.

I just have to say to 22-rim of your saying a boat is a waste of money look at the price of air (sailboats)

I'm a powerboat guy but sailboats are looking mighty nice these days

Thats what mine is. We filled up three 5-gallon jerry cans full of premix for our outboard in March 07 for a week long trip on "The Bad Example," and we haven't used it all yet.
We did keep a small arsenal on board, including a .22 rifle, a 12ga, and a 9mm pistol. I put the harpoon gun in the "fishing gear" category, but it could be a weapon. We dream of mounting a Ma Deuce on the bow sprit, but that kind of recoil would probably affect rudder authority.

That's a beautiful thing. Welcome THR, by the way.

If recoil bothers you at all, I could make a suggestion. I used a standard A2 stock on my .50 and filled the cavity in the buttstock with solid lead. I think it added about four pounds and I did notice a bit of a difference.

Enjoy it when you get around to shooting it.

Until then, practice making this face, :what:, followed by this one .

The upper is (of course) a Ferret. The lower is made by Thompson Machine. I decided to go with the Thompson receiver because I think it provides a 'cleaner' look with no magwell, no slot for a bolt hold-open and no slot for a mag release.

The Ferret comes with a high mass hammer that weighs more than a stock AR hammer. I am also using a Wolff extra power spring - I think this will provide more reliable ignition. The stock is an Ace and the pistol grip is a DPMS one. I am using the TPS rings to hold my Millet 4-16x44 Buck Gold Scope. http://www.tpsproducts.com/index.php?cPath=14_15_18

If you look at the lower, you will see that there is a pretty heavy 'rib' on each side of the receiver. When you use a standard length pin it will go in and leave a little 'cave' on each side. I am sure that it would work ... I just thought it would look better with a pin that had a longer shank and thicker head to bring it closer to the outside of the ribs.

The upper was right around 2400.00 - I think that I have about 350.00 in the lower, lower parts, scope rings and stock. So - without optics, I am at 2750.00 or so.

I have to ask... what are you going to use it for?

I bought it to shoot zombies - should the need ever arise ;)

Seriously - I don't compete, so I will just shoot it for fun.

Very nice; very clean looking weapon. But I must be getting old; because it sure was making me nervous to see your rifle perched on that upper railing of your deck! Anyways, good luck in keeping the zombies at bay.

Now there's my bigfoot rifle! Just gotta make sure ol sasquatch is coming from the direction that thing is already pointing.

WhisperFan,

Good to see you made the transition from BOHICA's board to here.

I know to some it was like you were rubbing salt into an open wound over there, as we all wait for our shipping notice.

normally, I don't really like .50 rifles, but this one is really nice :)

simple and elegant, I'm a fan :)

I think the AR conversion .50s make owning a "big rifle" possible, which is awesome, but I'm really curious how well they shoot. A guy had a booth at a gun show a couple months ago selling custome made .50's for about $1800, but I can't see how you can put that much time into a custom receiver, bolt, and barrel and still make decent money at less than $3-4000 for the time you are putting in without cutting corners. I realize the ferret and the bohica are different, but at the same time it seems like they should cost more.

In any case, get one before they are banned.

By congressional mandate, you are required to post a range report on performance.

I made a couple changes

Well - I shot it - and I liked it ..... but I thought it could be better.

I contacted David from Spider Firearms and had him alter it.

It now has a 24" barrel. I decided to mount my Zeiss on top too. And chaged to a MagPul stock. I like it much better now.

WhisperFan I like it even more now. I too have chosen the PRS stock for my .50, unlike you I still am waiting on mine.

Did you notice a big difference in accuracy or recoil with the shortened barrel?
