Hi all, just thought to share with you my latest new toy. It's not rare in any mean, but not everyday you will see a Astra in your LGS. So here it is:

Astra75.jpg

It's a full steel, 3.5" compact 8rd single stack 9mm. I don't like its DA trigger so much. It's long and heavy, but SA was quite nice. I really like its look, it has similar slide profile as Sig P series. Astra A-75 is about a size smaller than my Sig 225. The lever in the back is not a safety, it's a decocker. It take down just like a Browning Hi Power (why ain't more pistol take down like this way?).

I actually was hoping I can find the A-70 model the SAO version of 75. But this one deal was right so I snag it before someone else did.

Is there any Astra owners out there?

I'm on my third A-75, they are great guns. The first was a satin nickel .40S&W, but I'm not into pain, so I soon sold it. I found another satin nickel one in 9mm, and a friend talked me into selling it to him, so I kept looking and found a really nice blued 9mm with a bunch of mags for less than $300. It's my house gun. Small enough to hide, with enough heft to make shooting it pretty pleasant. I saw a stainless one not too long ago, a friend's dad has it, bought for an insanely cheap price right after Astra went out of business. I want that SS!

Congratulations! You have got yourself one of the best pistols of its kind available. I own a number of Astras and they have all served me well. Many people demean Spanish pistols but that says more about them than the pistols. I own many Stars and Astras and find them to be as good as any.

i own one and love it, although mine is a revolver

Agreed, although I got lucky and picked up a nice Astra recently from one here. Revolver though.

Nice looking guns.

I find it interesting how many think the recent crop of slim single stack 9's are a 'new' thing.

My very first gun purchase was an Astra A-75 chambered in 40S&W. It was a jam-o-matic. After a solid year trying to get it to run properly, I finally traded it for a Glock .

Too true. I've had my A75L since the mid-90's. I bought it as an inexpensive backup to my Sigs; it's been my "truck" gun for the past couple of years along with a dozen magazines. It's a solid, reliable shooter...

ROCK6

Astra and Star had designs decades ahead of US companies but the market wasn't ready to embrace them, too ahead of their time.As noted the slim compact 9s were available, the Star PD was somewhat popular with savvy lawmen and gun toters. The little Star DK was the base gun for the Colt Govt 380 and its offspring.
Nice pistol!

A90 was my first handgun I bought myself 25 years ago. Broke the hammer strut 6 months ago but managed to fix it myself with a part I found online. Its my bedside gun (in safe in closet). Astras are great.

Last time i qualified another young man was shooting a 75 and doing VERY well with it too.
Wouldn't mind having one after he let me handle his. Never see them around here though.

The RAP-440 and 401 pistols are improved South African versions (improved because they had the decocker AND a safety, not that different from a CZ-50 or 70 in operation). What is striking about all of them, Astra and RAP, is the utter smoothness of the triggers. They can be heavy triggers, but always very, very smooth.
