Well, after jumping through lots of hoops for a friend, I finally drove down to his house today and picked up an M38 he found and saved for me. Its absolutely one of the best I've seen. As far as I can tell, it hasnt been issued. Its a 1942 production from the Tula factory. The bore is perfect and there isn't a wear or major scratch mark anywhere on it.

Some of the most exciting aspects are the fact that I got a few original stripper clips, with more on the way hopefully. I have tried the aftermarket ones with my other 38, and they simply dont work. These work like a charm, it's amazing. He also threw in a dog collar sling which was exactly what I was looking for.

So all that, around 30 rds of ammo, more stripper clips and a pouch on the way, for $65 dollars. I'm thrilled with it and cant wait to see how it shoots. As soon as I can get down to my dad's I am going to give it a great cleaning and take some pictures of it to show off. I guess there are a lot of people who get sick of seeing them since they are all pretty much the same, but for those like me I will post the pics asap! :D

Hooray! The M38 is a neat, handy little gun. Lots of power in a tiny, sturdy package. I hate the way the M44s balance, to. I wub my M38. :)

What we both need now is an M39... :D

Youre absolutely right about the balance of the 38, its perfect. I never could get into the M44 because of that reason. I will probably add one to the collection all the same though..:D
An M39 was what I was initially setting out to buy, but this deal came along and was too good to pass up. The Finnish ones sound like a great deal so far. Do you happen to know much about what an original sniper setup goes for these days either?
I really shouldnt have watched Enemy At the Gates last night....
