I've put up a website about allowing passengers to carry weapons on planes, trains, buses and ships.

Air CCW is a topic that has been debated on this board at various times. A few years ago, there was a website called Project: Safe Skies. But that's been gone for a while now.

Any feedback on how to improve the website would be greatly appreciated. Also, I hope people will tell others about the website.

Hi Michael!

Your main page has to hook the Reader, and set both the premise of the proposition and the rightness of it in very few words, without making them work for it.

Quickly dashed off example, that would require a bit of research and crafting:

The Failed Experiment.

Most young people today do not remember the days before metal detectors, when a lawfully armed citizen boarding a train, plane or ship was common and unremarkable.

Before that time, there where ____ hijackings (maybe deaths due to terrorists?). Since that time, on ___ ___, 1972(?), there have been __hijackings, resulting in _______ deaths.

It's time to admit that the experiment was doomed to failure from the start, and reclaim the means of taking helping ourselves when there's no one else to help us.

What would Todd Beamer have given for a simple revolver?


Perhaps also, that cartoon that appeared after 9/11, with the jihadis surrounded by armed passengers would get the point across, although I don't know if it would water down the level of seriousness.
 
A different, probably better approach:

In a time of danger, America is wasting a precious, unique national resource.

America has literally tens of millions of background checked, trained, tested and trustworthy armed men and women. They are current and ex police officers, current and ex military, and permit holding citizens who are quietly and inconspicuously armed among us all the time.

These same trustworthy citizens are are forced to lay aside their arms every time they board an airplane, train or other target of terrorism.

Does this make even the slightest bit of sense?

Then you could ice the cake with a list of any 9/11 passengers who had military, police, emergency or carry permits.
 
The page is almost unreadable in Firefox at 1024x1280 resolution due to the contrasty background overlapping with text. Try using a narrow table to constrain the text?
 
Yeah, with Viagra you know you're not shooting blanks!:D

But seriously, this puts the esteemed Congressperson in somewhat of a compromising position. She's obviously anti-gun, but she was caught complaining about being searched for weapons.

Armed Passengers Project Update for March 12, 2007

Dear Readers,

Yesterday, in the Poughkeepsie Journal, columnist Mark Musso praised heightened airport and rail security screening, calling it “a necessity, regardless of how we feel about it.” He also said “The slight inconvenience is a small price to pay to know that we are safer for the effort.” You can read his commentary at the following link:

This morning I emailed Mr. Musso to introduce him to the Armed Passengers Project. I was pleasantly surprised to receive an immediate response from him saying that while he had some initial hesitation about the concept, he would review the website, keep an open mind and consider featuring the issue in a future column as “food for thought”.

Let’s hope we can find more journalists willing to have an open mind.
