Nice pic! I love my XD9SC. It never leaves my side except when I'm at work (pocket carry a .380 then).
Interesting serial number! :p Did photoshop do that? I need to learn how to use it someday.

It came with the 'gear' setup, but I decided that the photo should be of the gun itself.

The serial number is courtesy of GIMP, a Linux image manipulation program - I run Slackware Linux - much safer than Windows or OS-X, and nearly all my software is free.

Just curious, does this have the melonite finish like the new xd-45s do?

GIMP

Not to butt in, but GIMP can be had for Win* as well. :)

Glad to hear I'm not the only *nix junkie around these parts, though. :p

Nice photo! I expect one of those to be in my future (although probably a couple years off).

I bought one off a friend several months ago. I've put several boxes of WWB through it and a couple magazine's worth of Hydrashoks, seems reliable enough to me.

I have a like/hate relationship with the gun. I like it because:

-I shoot a service sized XD pistol in .45 ACP more than any other gun besides maybe a .22. Thus I feel I cross train this particular gun adequately.

-I have an XD9 service and the two can swap magazines to a degree (the service won't take the smaller subcompact mags). I shoot the 9SC more than the 9 service oddly enough.

-9x19 seems like the "right" caliber for a small handgun. It allows for a smaller formfactor and offers a pretty respectable amount of power for its size.

-It's the perfect gun to keep locked in my little car safe, because I can carry and conceal it in almost any clothing.

-I don't find it hard to shoot accurately and quickly.

-The quality is there, no problems with the gun really.

I hate it because:

- It's an awkward size. Let me explain. The XD9SC is a good gun for when I'm going to say, be moving furniture and the full sized piece just gets in the way. However it is not a pocket gun. It's an awkward size, yes it is smaller than the full size XD, but it is considerably larger than something like the Keltec offerings.

- I really would prefer it be a .45 ACP. Let me explain again. If SA had the plant in Croatia make a SC version of the XD45ACP that was slightly but not significantly larger than the XD9SC, it would be perfect. It would be the smallest handgun ever that I could get a full, 3 finger grip on in the caliber I prefer.

Basically the gun is good, but I constantly find myself looking at it and wishing it were slightly different in some way or another.

But I keep it because a good compromise leaves everybody mad, and it does allow me to have "enough gun" (Whatever that means) more often than I would otherwise.

For instance, I am going to be moving my sister to a large city here pretty soon. I'm going to be carrying couches, going up and down stairs, bending over, etc. in the presence of people who don't know me very well. My XD45ACP would certainly print, my XD9SC will not.

Otherwise, I'm going to be watching out for my family when we're not doing this crap while we're on the way there, while we're there, and while we're going back. I'm the only one licensed to carry and I don't like the idea of a gun being out of my immediate reach for safety reasons, and I want something a little bit better than 6 rounds of .38 special for such a job if possible. The XD9SC is the ticket.

The finish is an issue. Mine gets a lot of carry time in a CTAC and the finish is wearing pretty good. I contacted SA and they said send them the gun (or the slide) and they'll refinish it for free. I figure I'll wait until it gets bad. Besides I like the look of a gun that gets used instead of a safe queen most of the time.

Nice gun rcellis, welcome to the XD club!

I agree that the wearing on the slide looks good - shows that the gun gets used. My CTAC definitely has left its mark on my XD9 Service.

Would it be possible to pocket carry one of these?Weight and bulk wise, and how does it compare in those aspects to the Glock 26?

It will just fit in my front jeans pocket. It would probably work better in a loose fitting pair of Dockers. (I'm 5'11" @ 190, 34" waist)

I had a Glock 26 once - it would fit just a bit better, but it's close.
