I picked this up today on a local Internet sale. Bluing is 100%, not a single blemish or mark anywhere, not even a drag line. The grips are absolutely perfect, not even a hint of a scratch. I don't think the gun has ever been fired, save for the factory test. In complete lockup, there is zero movement. The action is tight, tight, tight and the SA break is like glass.

Sorry for this lousy pic. Curse my blundering attempt at gun photography as it doesn't do this beautiful piece justice.

Serial # is 1K9407x. Can anyone tell me date of manufacture?

Of, the best part? $300 and no taxes, transfer fees, or shipping.

Sure am sorry to hear about all of the bad luck you've been put through, getting stuck with that old gun and all.

It was made in 1971, and shows it's age well.

Some people have all the luck ......

Now all you have too do is find a matching .38 Special ......

These are high on the list of best guns ever made by S&W. If anybody there had some sense they would make some more up identical to the Model 19.

Instead we get lightweight N frame snubbies.

You are now MR rock jock. A theft of the proportions as a like new almost unfired M18 for 300 bucks clear qualifies you for instant 'MR" and entrance into the "biggest steal of the year" category.

Put together the correct box and accessories for this gun ASAP, and put it away. You will double your money in just a few years.

Buy another one to shoot if you want to shoot it. It is one of the best shooters S&W ever devised, but you have rare property. Preserve it and prosper or shoot it and suffer.

Where would i get a vintage S&W box from that timeframe?

As far as storing it away, I frankly don't have the willpower to do that. As an example, I bought a like-new 1963 Colt Python last year that shines like a mirror and turns like a Swiss watch and I tried REALLLY hard to resist it, but it must have the power of Frodo's ring because it literally pulled me to the range and made me load it and pull its trigger.:D

Congratulations On The Purchase Of A S&W Model 18

Been there and done that so to speak! I was
able to get one NIB in 1971 with S/N 1K703XX
and it sent thousands of 22 LR's down range.
Good guns, and should NEVER had been put
on the discontinued list!

Best Wishes,

If you are going to shoot it I wouldn't bother with the accessories.

I have bought some on ebay, but most from the guys over at the S&W forum .
