picked up the trijicon tri-power.

i got a chance to test one out a few months ago, alongside the reflex. i can't get used to the filter on the reflex, and i just fell in love with that tri-power. been whispering sweet nothings to it every time i go to WWGs just to keep it happy with me.

then i get a call saying "you're gonna love the eotech! come check it out!"

so i did, some impromptu 'field testing' including inside a dark bathroom with WA bumping into my backside (get your mind out of the gutter, he aint got nightvision nor do the eyes in the back of my head), and outside into the bright blue sky and sunshine (for the 2 hours of the day that its out).

yes, the eotech has a better field of vision, wider, higher, and the reticle is nifty. it has slightly better illumination controls, there seems to be more visible changes of brightness.

but the tri-power is my first love. so it followed me home today. will see if i can get some pics taken and a range report next week.

besides, if i got the eotech i'd only be able to say my ninjaness increased by one level, not the three with the three power sources for the tripowers reticle.

:D :D

Best thing is watching him crab walk through the shop with his Colt 6920, looks like a bowling ball bouncing down the alley :)

Dont worry about the car money, Ol Spiffy is on account here :)

Got a customer that haunts garage sales for stuff, we put it on ebay for him, hes buying rifles left and right with the stuff we are sellin for him....

tsk tsk tsk no carbon fiber any where :what: thats at least one level down, no nasty pointy thing on the end at least a half level  you should get some of those large capacity ammo carrying thingys that stick out of the bottom :D

Very tacti-cool. Me gusta.

I had to search about the Tri-power as I haven't used one. I really like the idea of the outside corners of the chevron being the width of a silhouette at 100 yards, and the inside corners being the width at 200 yards.

Seems like it's got enough systems to stay well lit. One question about what I read though: it says there is a cyalume chem stick backup lighting. How the heck do you rig a glowstick to power your sight???

Now THAT would be uber tacti-cool!

theres a small compartment, smaller than the battery tube, on the left side. the sticks are pretty small, just put it in and voila! there is light.

it came with a couple sticks so i just had to try one out. :D

ron, you mean its NOT a single shot rifle???? :neener:

no, no CF yet. i've only channeled the spirit of the ninja, gonna be a while before i have enough experience points to channel the spirit of the skunk.

I spent all of my tax money and have none left for my EOTech. Darn. I like the idea of the Tri-power too, but if I can't afford the EOTech, I can't afford the Tri-Power. I am going to go fix a sprinkler in the back yard now and see if any ubertactical optics fell out of the sky onto my lawn. Wish me good luck.

Any high power optics found in El Rojo's yard were accidently droped by me. Please send them back :neener:

The Tri-Power was discontinued by Trijicon due to a couple of reocurring issues with the sight. They are expecting to rerelease an improved version (this would be the third time the Tripower has been "released" and the third generation Tripower) sometime in late 2005, early 2006.

Most of the issues only affect military/LE use and not range use. Past issues known to the Tripower that I am aware of are:

A red-haze across the lower portion of the glass (1st gen)
Muzzle-side signature (all current models)
Fiber optic donut glows when batteries/cyalume are applied (all current models)
Even with cap on, donut glows very brightly when viewed through NODS (all current models)

I've also read some complaints on construction and ability to maintain zero; but they've been pretty limited so I don't know if that is a design-related complaint or just some QC issues at Trijicon related to the massive wartime production of ACOGs.

i wonder if trijicon will shorten the OAL of the tri-power? when mounted on the very front of the flattop, theres just barely enough room to put the flipup rear sight.

since the acog has no other power source, probably not. and if it were possible, during low-light the sleeve could be put over the acog.

I wonder if the regular ACOG fiberoptic strand also makes the user very visible..

I think most of the Tripower issues are due to the battery power showing throw the fiber optics. The ACOG uses only tritium (and very dim at that) so it doesn't seem to be an issue there.

I've seen several pics of ACOGs viewed through night vision and it doesn't appear the tritium is bright enough to be viewed through the fiber optics even with the AN/PVS-14 mounted behind the ACOG.
