My outlook on bans !

......Hellow fellow members ! One thing that comes to my mind about gun bans is that most of the major cities have all kinds of restrictions or bans,but yet most of gun related crimes comes from these cities ! Seems kind of back-asswards to me ? Am I wrong about this and what can we do to get this corrected ? Thank you for any response !
 
Nothing to "correct". The anit-2A folk don't hate guns, they hate the gun owners. Truth and facts has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on their desire to establish a repressive state. The thing is one simply can't do that with a well armed populace....
 
This time around is there last try at a AWB. They will spend all there political capital on this one. They won't waste the Sandy Hook tragedy. They will give up if they can't get AWB this time around IMHO that is.:cuss:

"All kinds of restrictions or bans" can mean a lot of things, but for the sake of looking into your theory, let's check out a couple basic factors like having Shall Issue CCW and state-level Assault Weapons Bans. Here are the 10 most dangerous cities for 2012, in order from worst to least, and status of the shall issue and AWB laws for those states.

Detroit, MI - Shall issue, no state level AWB.
St. Louis, MO - Shall issue, no state level AWB.
Oakland, CA - Restrictions/bans.
Memphis, TN - Shall issue, no state level AWB.
Birmingham, AL - Shall issue, no state level AWB.
Atlanta, GA - Shall issue, no state level AWB.
Baltimore, MD - Restrictions/bans.
Stockton, CA - Restrictions/bans.
Cleveland, OH - Shall issue, no state level AWB.
Buffalo, NY - Restrictions/bans.

Forbes article on 2012 most dangerous cities.

Of course there other various restrictions we could look at. For example, in the #2 city of St. Louis, state law says that loaded car carry is okay in the vehicle without a permit, yet even with this relatively liberal gun law they still wound up the second most dangerous city in America. By contrast, noticeably absent from the list are Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, each of which is in a state with some of the nations most restrictive gun laws. Bottom line, it appears that "most gun related crime" does not come from these cities. Quite the contrary, most of the cities that made the list are in shall-issue CCW states with no restrictions on magazine size.

What needs to be compared to that list is population density and percentage of welfare recipients as well as drug crime related arrests.

Chicago doesn't report crime statistics to the FBI. What about Washington DC? I think Forbes got it wrong I would feel much safer in most of those places than Chicago or DC.

Detroit has the second highest rate with 35.9, nearly four times its metro rate, followed by Baltimore (29.7), Oakland (26.6), and Newark (25.4). St. Louis, Miami, Richmond, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., round out the top 10. All of these rates are considerably higher than their metro rates — in most cases more than double or triple, or in the case of Newark, nearly eight times its metro rate...............I'm finding it hard for my limited skills to know how to copy lots of what I find.I think what little I find and some of what you found does bring me close to my point.You can also see here that New York City ,Atlanta Georgia,LA Cal,Chicago IL,and many,many others aren't on this ''murder rate '' list.One thing it does show is that muders and gun crime are an epidemic in the cities.To further stir the pot most gang activity is in the cities.I know I still haven't proved that gun crime is mostly in ''ban'' area's,but it does show a '' gun ban'' in the cities doesn't mean a thing......

I had no idea that cities could get an exemption from their violent crimes being logged by the FBI. I wonder how they get away with that... Does anyone know where we could look for an accurate, all inclusive list? Or do the CDC figures that dastardly mentioned accomplished that?

Dastardly, the figures you posted include more places that I would think were on the list. I'm currently working in Kansas City, again in MO which has a pretty decent set of gun laws. However, when I watch the news here it seems like there are 2-3 murders per week. Of course it's complicated since the metro area encompasses two states and anything outside the city proper could be logged as another city.
 
The bottom line is that due to lack of data, it's impossible to conclusively say anything one way or another. The data we have to work with is seriously flawed. This is one reason I don't think Lott is much of an advocate, bad data. (The other being is that he's a very poor public speaker, IMO.)

I would try to find another source, Alabama is not a shall issue. Don't know what else may be wrong.

You're right. Good catch. I cobbled that comparison together off of google quickly, and made that error.
 
I guess population density would have something to do with it all. The outstanding fact is that laws don't mean a thing one way or another to gangs and thugs ! Just another reason we keep locks on our doors and need our concealed weapons permits and keep other gun in our castles,I mean homes !
 
Even the the word culture has shifted in it's meaning,it used to mean the best,or style,now culture includes murder,theivery,drugs,just too much negative things,not positive ! How is murder,deceit,drugs,gang initiations considered a cultural thing ?

I agree with this. I work in a lot of different places and usually in the bad part of town. I feel much safer in STL than Chicago. East STL, IL is another story. I am surprised it isn't on the list. Although I really dislike Chicago, East STL is the only place I've felt uncomfortable and nervous just driving through.
