my pc-9 is driving me nuts

I am at the end of my rope.

I dunno how it is with other ruger's, but the PC-9 is IM-FREAKING-POSSIBLE on the final step of re-assembly. Getting the completed receiver into the stock is a B*TCH.

The manual is available online, but to sum up the procedure, the reciever is lowered into the stock while the bolt is held open 'a bit'. I cannot for the life of me get the receiver back in. It takes me an average of one hour and fifty two minutes of attempts to actually get it in each time.

What bothers me more than not being able to get it back in is not understanding why??? I just finished college with a 3.9 GPA and got into Harvard for a fall masters program. I am not the dumbest guy on these boards! I cannot for the life of me understand what is blocking the receiver from a clean entry.

Please help, I'm really losing it.

I'll call the Ruger technical department and ask if they have some tips that may be of some help. I'm sure they do.

Make sure the hammer is cocked. I hold the stock between my legs while sitting, one hand on the reciever holding the bolt back an inch, the other hand near the muzzle lowering it into the stock. Pay attention to hooking the rearmost 'tabs' into (under) the rear of the stock opening. I have the most trouble getting the bolt back into the reciever after installing the bolt op-lever. Ruger will send you a free manual if you ask, but like you said it leaves something to be desired. After you get the hang of it it will get easier. I only rarely disassemble completely, usually cleaning the bore, then blasting the reciever with gunscrubber, then FP-10.

once you get the hang of it , it is really easy, the assembled receiver should go right on, try pulling down on the bolt a little more as you lower
it into the receiver so it engages the disconnector, if you dont pull back
far enough the trigger wont work, also make sure the hammer is "cocked"

getting the bolt back into the receiver is also very easy, replace the cocking handle and plunger into the top of the slide assembly, plunger end goes
into the cocking handle , make sure to leave the pin punch in the cross hole
in the guide rod. Carefully ease assembly into the receiver, you need to
start easing it in at a angle so the charging handle can go in , once the charging handle goes through the ejection port ease the rest of the assembly into the receiver, be very careful not to let the spring loaded
charging handle fall out. Then remove the pin punch and allow slide to go
forward.

thanks dude, but receiver assembly ain't my problem, that's fine. The problem was lowering the receiver into the stock.

Only takes me about 15 minutes to clean and reassemble my Uzi.

I've heard people say they have trouble getting Rugers together before, although I think it was the Mk2 pistol. What a PITA.

I"ll second the MkII. My dad has one that he bought in 76, always cleaned it, but *never* took it apart for cleaning. A few years ago we were shooting, got home and Iwas going to strip it to clean it, taking it apart was bad enough, I thought I"d never get it back together


Never had any problems with my 10/22s or Mini-14 tho.
