i scored a 6shot 686 powerport @ my local dealer a little while back. 6" ported barrel, all stainless, and although a -6 (w/ lock), it was too good a deal to pass up.
it's basically my dedicated PPC revolver (i've shot steel with it as well, but i might end up picking up another 686 (4") for IDPA/Steel *when i actually shoot it*.
unmolested, the day i got it.
so pretty
i started with the basics, a Miculek spring kit, and an SDM front sight (much thanks to my buddy dave for helping me polish the sear and rebound slide to slick up the action a bit, and for letting me use his drill press to drill out the SDM F/O front sight)
and all was well. with the strain screw backed out a tad (still reliable on winchester/federal primers), i had a ~ 7-7.5lb *estimated* DA pull.
but i got brave [wink]......
a friend had the tool to chamfer the cylinder, how do i say no to that! speedloading is a bit faster now
but again, i got brave!
during the last PPC match i got a bit ballsy, and TRIED SA to improve my left handed scores (which ended badly...the SA trigger is almost TOO light, and in moving my grip around to cock the hammer, i screwed myself). i decided enough was enough, and i wanted to remove that temptation...bye bye hammer spur!
and while i had the whole gun detail stripped, i thought about how nice daves 586 felt in my hand with a nice radius on the trigger (which is pretty much squared off from the factory). about 2 hours with the rotozip (and the flex shaft attachment), and the difference in feel was AMAZING! my finger no longer hangs up on the trigger when i'm shooting fast!
and the finished product!
overall i'm thrilled with the results. i may end up breaking it all down again after i buy a dremel (and can REALLY get the trigger and hammer polished to perfection), but for a few hours work, i'm very happy with the results. and the added bonus, the percieved trigger pull is even lighter than before! still lights off my reloads without a problem, and is even more of a joy to shoot!
