My RCBS neck turner has ruined its last piece of brass. Recommendations for new tool?

I bought the RCBS neck turner because I thought the mic adjustment would be handy for setting the depth of the cut, but no matter how carefully I set it, the zero "wanders" during use, so I can't count on the depth of cut being the same from one piece of brass to the next.

I noticed the lock ring was coming loose during use, and once I tightened that down, the mic body was coming loose, so I used blue loctite to keep that in place. But even with all that locked down, I can see that from piece to piece, the zero on the mic wanders anyway (i.e. when I dial the mic into the pilot, I'm not at zero, or wherever I was on the last piece). Not only does this absolutely kill my productivity on an already slow process (since I have to carefully edge into my desired thickness each piece so I don't overdo it), but I'm occasionally cutting the case walls too thin anyway.

I'm ready to throw this thing in the trash and start over. I've been using a K&M neck expander mandrel, and reviews on their neck turner seem reasonably good, so I thought I'd give it a try, but I thought I'd come here for other recommendations before choosing.

FWIW, I don't think I'm quite ready for a $$$ lathe setup, so I'd like to stick to hand tools, at least for now.

Thanks for the review. Was thinking of getting one to turn 308 brass resized to 260.

Sinclair makes a good tool for a fairly good price. I've not used a K&M expander, so don't know if it will work with the sinclair tool. For sinclair's, you use an die on your press with an expander mandrel and a different neck turn mandrel on the tool. The expander die is handy for other things like necking up cases. It can get a little pricing if you get carbide turn mandrels for several cartridges.

One more .... "Have you talked to RCBS" about the problem ?? I have never known them not to be more than helpful with the products they make ...

I've been using RCBS products since 1969 and have yet not have them step up when there was a problem .... their service is at the top of the list ....

Oh ...I am not just a RCBS owner .... I own products from most all the major reloading products companies ....

I contacted RCBS, seems the ram fell out the bottom of one of my ROCK Chuckers, I called RCBS. Yesterday I received a repair kit. I could have gotten on the Internet and blamed my wife but I have already used that excuse and no one believed me.

:)

RCBS is a good company.....if one of their products don't work for you they will bend over backwards......all it takes it a good attitude, and a calm, nice telephone persona.........as Mr. Guffey demonstrated above.

Like others said RCBS is great company will take care of it. Other tools my Hornady is a good little tool the new lathe type not hand held had one of those don't bother. The new one is easy to use and accurate. Wilson makes best trimmer I have used so sure Sinclair unit or K&M would be good as well.
Hope helps little
