I bought my Redhawk back in 1986. I am very lucky to have a great father who understood the needs of teenaged boys, so I saved all my money from a summer of lobster fishing and he helped pay the rest as long as I passed my math class. Fortunately for me, my teacher was a NRA life member who happened to love Rugers as much as I did. I don't think I ever ran home from school with a report card before, but when I saw a B+ I surely did. My dad was a lifeguard and at the time was stationed at lifeguard headquarters right down the hill from the high school. Since this was BC (Before Cellphones) I had to decide if I should try and catch him at work or run home and wait. I went for the headquarters first, sprinted up the three flights of stairs to his office and burst through the door. He was very excited for me and we jumped in his lifeguard truck and headed to the local gun shop. I had to wait a couple of months to get this particular model, but it taught me patients and was worth the wait. I found this picture today shooting my Redhawk in Montana the following spring and it brought back many happy memories of my dad and I and all of our adventures together. I have shot so many rounds out of that gun and it is still wonderful today. Here is a picture of a much younger version of me...

Very nice story. The only Redhawk we had in our family was the one my brother bought when he worked up in Alaska. He bought a 5 1/2" stainless model and carried it in an old surplus British canvas holster made for a .455 Webley revolver. He loved to hike in his spare time and this was the perfect trailside companion for him on those excursions.

Heh. Funny coincidence: Yesterday I was shooting my identical Redhawk while wearing what I believe are identical muffs that my dad bought for us in the mid-70s.

Unfortunately, I wasn't at such a pastoral range, but at least it was outside. Shooting inside a concrete box takes some of the joy out of it.

Nice story, I've been thinking of carrying a Redhawk OC with Buffalo bore .44 magnum anti-personell loads for self defense.
