i bought a new ruger mkIII .22 pistol the other day. i noticed that after shooting it the front sight screw loosened up. i tightened it and after shooting only 20 rounds it became loose again. i tightened it once again and the same thing happened. shoulf i take it back to the dealer (i really dont want too) or should i get some lock-tight and use it on the screw.

any suggestions????

Recommend Blue Loctite. The blue stuff will hold the screw in place but is not so strong that you can never get the screw out again if you ever decided/needed to replace the front sight.

My wife's 22/45 had the same problem. Blue Loctite fixed it.

thanks for the responses. i called the dealer up and he said to stop by sunday and put some loktight on it. its a great handgun, just when you get something new and have a little problem its frustrating.:)

One thing to try before buying anything, is to remove any and all oil from the front site base and the screw. Mine used to do the same thing, and when I removed the sight, I noticed mine had a bunch of oil trapped under it. So I dropped both parts into some degreaser, cleaned it up, tightened everything snug, and I haven't had any problems since.

Loctite certainly wouldn't hurt either...
