I picked up my Ruger LCP yesterday. I brought it to the range and only put 24 rounds through it because I was pressed for time. I didn't have any malfunctions per se, but a couple of the times when I racked the slide with the magazine loaded, the slide actually *locked back*. I racked it again and it slid forward.
Later last night at home, with the magazine unloaded, I activated the manual slide hold-open lever. Theoretically, you can just rack the slide again and it should deactivate, releasing the slide to the forward position. If I recall correctly, this worked before, but its not working now.

Any similar experiences? Suggestions? I've called Ruger Customer Service, left a message with a technician, and am waiting for a call back.

Sounds like the result of adding an unecessary component to a pocket gun. I've never wished for a slide lock on my P3AT. Don't know why Ruger felt that it was needed, and it seems to be more trouble than anything. There's just only so many places you can put your fingers on such a tiny gun, and external levers are bound to be inadvertently bumped. I know your problem is not what I describe; simply pointing out that the addition of the slide lock could (and has) proved problematic.

lube it

lube that area up with some gun oil and see if that helps any, Mine was stiff also and now is doing OK. It should drop down by itself when racking the slide..

Just got a call back from Ruger.
Apparently the spring for the hold-open may fall out if the hold-open is operated with the slide off. Funny thing is, I hadn't disassembled it before this started happening - so perhaps it was a problem caused by somebody at the factory or by my dealer.
Either way, they're sending me a shipping label to send it to them to be fixed. Apparently its like a 2-minute fix, but requires more disassembly than us end-users are supposed to do.
