My son just joined the 1911 crowd

After getting his first handgun for Christmas (one of my .45's), he decided to purchase his first 1911. So off we went in search of a Mil-Spec 1911. He's been wanting one ever since watching the Band of Brothers. He loves that show. I showed him the different 1911 versions and he decided on a Springfield Mil-Spec. Originally he wanted the GI but I convinced him to spend the extra bucks and get the Mil-Spec with the lowered ejection port and 3 dot sights. So after searching the gunshow this weekend and coming up empty, we went to hit the local gunshops today. Finally found a Mil-Spec for $525 and decided to jump on it. There wasn't anything else in the other gunshops instead of the GI's and Rock Islands. Needless to say, tomorrow we are off to the indoor range for some familiarization training.

So here is a picture of my 21 year old son with his new pistol. (notice the tee-shirt )

Yep, and tonight I will teach him how to reload. He told me last night that he wants to learn. So, after we go to the range for some shooting we will do some reloading.

Looks like you have just created a fine young monster, Lenny Joe! I did the same recently to my GI son. He was all talk about the Beretta M9 until I stuck a Gold Cup in his hands. His groups shrunk so dramatically that I am now bombarded with requests to gift it to him!

Sorry to hear that, it is a terrible thing having that particular monkey on your back! (ask me how I know)

BTW, I like the dinky ole GI sights -- I guess I am truly becoming an old-f**t.

Took the kid shooting yesterday. Shot 100 rounds of 230gr reloads, 25 rounds of El Dorado (old stuff I had laying around) and 25 rounds of 200 +P without one fail to feed, eject or anything. All rounds ran 100%.

The boy was hitting about 3" low at 15yds and I was spot on with it. So we went over the basics such as trigger control, grip, stance and such and his groups started to come in. It's been a while since he's been shooting but it seems to be coming back to him.

One other thing, the kid is more like his dad than we thought. He's left eye dominant, right handed too. So now he's gonna have to learn to adjust his aim. Poor kid.

Kudos for bringing another into the fold -- I tried like hell with my girls, but I couldn't get my oldest daughter to like the 1911s ... she is fixated on the CZ-75 platform (although she tells me she wants one of my Inox 92FS's) ...
