My Winchester 9422 has sat in the safe for over ten years. When I took it out last week, the stock was very warm, clearly has been sitting too close to a heat source that I keep in there, and faded! See pictures, the forearm is what the stock used to look like. I'd like to do what needs to be done to bring the deep walnut luster back, but really don't want to screw it up. Can anyone offer me some guidance? Thx.

Try some tung oil or danish oil. You may have to use some 0000 steel wool on it first and do the entire wood.

Will either tung oil or danish oil darken the stock? I'm not sure. Whatever you do, try a small spot first. But I'm thinking you may need to remove the existing finish and re-stain the wood. No guarantees though. I refinished the butt stock and forearm on a Winchester single shot 20 gauge. Used the same stain on both and they still didn't come out the same color. Getting the checkering to match will be tricky.
