My suppressor shopping

After long consideration and some research, I decided to blow some good money on a suppressor for my Glock 19. I tried finding a local Class III and gave up on the fool after months of following up to see if he'd done anything. I went to the city to a shop that actually sells suppressors. The guy I initially talked to was incompetent and then Hank walked in, the resident expert. I knew what can I wanted and that came recommended: The AAC Ti-Rant. Hank tried hard to sell me other brands he had in his display case, like Yankee Hill. Fairly sloppy interaction and I got a bit frustrated and said, "Listen, can you get me the AAC model suppressor I want or not?" He stopped babbling and fetched a catalog from the back and said his literature was too old and didn't have the model. I gave him my printout and after more negotiating he said he'd order it. I probably overpaid but at this point I just want to get the process rolling. He said it would take 4-6 months. So, I put $200 down and hope I won't lose my job or regret spending so frivolously. Fortunately I'm a single guy without dependents. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I had a date. But I digress

Good choice on the suppressor, it sounds like you knew more than the "expert" also. Get a Lone Wolf threaded barrel & some subsonic ammo and you're GTG.

Not the can I would buy, but not an indefensible choice. You'll love shooting suppressed. The only problem is that they breed.

Next time order from Major-malfunction (.com). Pay less and he's the largest silencer dealer in the country. Pretty sure he has .45 TiRants in stock now. He'll help you find an SOT in your area to transfer.

I've heard good things about the Ti-Rant, except for that they have a propensity to exist/not exist depending on who you talk to. The rumor mill has them as the latest and greatest can out there and the folks who don't like AAC that much say that they havent made it out of production.

In any event, I'm anxious to see one up close one of these days. My gut tells me that I will probably see one at the SHOT show in January before I get a customer order filled.

Definitely...the second part of the 2 video tour that Nutnfancy takes of the Silencerco factory has some tests in it. From the looks of the numbers, the can is better than some of the industry leaders by a minimum of 10db.

silencerco is also the brand I want. Best part is the .22 cans not only work but are serviceable by the owner. I didn't realize that is was so expensive to have your .22 can cleaned by the manufacturer, not to mention you might damage your tube if you try to take one apart by yourself.

I also like how well thought out all of the products are. Frankly, I'm waiting for the rifle silencers to see how that works. I really need a .308 can, but would like to see what they come up with first.

i played with the silencerco osprey on an HK 45 a few weeks back. i have one on order. can't wait for it. however, i didn't find it to be that much quieter (if any) than other 45 cans i've owned/heard

to the OP: dealers like yankee hill a lot because they are easy to do business with, have stuff in stock and ship quickly, and there's a LOT of markup, so dealers get PAID. hard not to like the company. and they're not horrible cans, but they're sure not as nice as nearly any other brand (KAC, gemtech, silencerco, awc, etc).

I agree with what taliv says.

Many dealers are looking at the almighty dollar. Thats why they bring 10 Phoenix/Jimenez/Etc guns to the gun show, sell all 10 and make $600 in one day. I don't sell anything that I don't believe in and even though my margins are less going to some manufacturers, I'd much rather sell a higher quality product than the highest profit margin.

I will say this as a sidenote: My margins across the board on pistol cans - Gemtech/AAC/SWR/Silencerco all make me the same amount of money per can. I have no financial incentive to steer you towards one brand or another.

Also worthy of note, in full disclosure. I am a big silencerco fan. I placed a large order and Josh made several cans available to me no charge for my demos. That is something that AAC and Gemtech need to pick up on. When the AAC rep visited me he said simply "We don't do business like that."

It is in the manufacturers best interest to make demo product available to potential customers. Why other manufacturers dont do this is beyond me.

Since I have become an SOT, nearly all my requested quotations have been Silencerco. Not a single person has asked me to quote Gemtech or AAC. Not that I have anything wrong with selling Gemtech or AAC - but if people don't ask, I won't order. I've got sales reps trying to sell me 380 ammo and I dont have any customers that want any so there is no sense to stock it.

Josh knows how to run a business, its that simple. Everytime I've delt with him from the 1st time I met him at the 09 AAC silencer shoot in GA, to the email I just sent him, hes been 110% honest, professional, and quick to answer questions. Kinda make it a PITA when I have to deal with other manufacurers, Im spoiled.

I too hope you won't regret it- and I doubt you will. I'm am nearing the end of my "maximum" wait for the ATF to get back to me so I can pick up my AAC unit. Checking the mailbox is getting more anxiety ridden by the day.

Funny enough, a friend told me today she's about to do some work for AAC on some website development. I really need to convince her that she's got to do a factory tour (with her "assistant" of course ) to do a proper job. My immediate plea for "free sh!@" didn't garner a response, durnit. I'll keep my fingers crossed on both accounts.

I am in the market for a 9mm suppressor also, and my guy has a TiRant for $850.

First, what IS the consensus on this can? From this thread, it seems like "middle of the road" NOW. Maybe it was the Cadillac of Cans a few years ago?

For $850 Is that a good deal?

The TiRant is a good choice for a 9mm can that will see multiple hosts like pistols and carbines.
And for the record, most of us stocking dealers have the TiRant listed at $775 due to MAP restrictions, but if you pick up the phone and call, you can get better deals or package deals for more than one model.

You may also an to take a look at the Gemtech Tundra if it is for a pistol as the host. It is very quiet and the external diameter means you won't need taller sights on most handguns like you will with a larger suppressor like the TiRant or Multimount.
