I am looking at various suppressors for my Tavor. There are many manufactures and some recent companies are supposedly making suppressors specifically for the Tavor in order to control back pressure, POI shift, etc (OSS Suppressor Systems). I know on the bullpupforum there are postings. However, they mostly deal with OSS.

I spoke with Surefire's technical support regarding their SOCOM556 Mini and SOCOM556 RC. He gave various specs and the like. Also, he said to be careful of companies making claims that cannot be supported since there are too many variables involved.

His best suggestion was to go to a gun show where they are participating and other suppressor manufactures are and try them out at the range at the gun show. Seems logical.

So, does anyone have thoughts on which suppressor manufacture to look into and consider? Does anyone know if there is a gun show in Arizona coming up where they will be showcasing suppressors and actually allowing the public to shoot them to try them out?

Thanks for the help!

I wish could answer your question in detail but my experience is rather limited in comparison to what's out there. I will say however that you absolutely get what you pay for, my first suppressor was a cheaper one and looking back I should have spent the extra money to get something else. Don't get me wrong it works great and I'm happy to have it but knowing what I know now I would have done it differently and spent more time shopping around and putting hands on. Hope this helps even if just a little

I dont have a Surefire, mines an AAC M4-2000, that I use on my AR's.

From the looks of the Surefire you listed, Im assuming youre going with a QD mount/flash suppressor? That would be my choice.

When I got my AAC, I was looking for a caliber specific can, but now think Id have been better off, going with a larger caliber, for more versatility. My buddy went with a can in .30 caliber, for his .300BO, and uses it with his 5.56's as well. Seems to work just as well.

As far as suppression, I can shoot my AR from the floor of my carport, without hearing protection, no problem. My ears arent all that good anymore, and a .22 fired from the same spot, sets them off for days. While there is no muzzle blast, you will get a sonic crack from the round going downrange, with anything supersonic.

AAC claims 97% reduction in muzzle blast, and if its not, its real close. When you look into the can, and realize just how short the baffle stack is, its even more amazing.

I vote for the Silencerco Saker 762. The larger body of the 762 should contribute to lower back pressure, and if you look at some of the videos, the 762 Saker with a 556 endcap attached actually meters lower than the Saker 556. You would still have the option to use the 762 on any rife you have up to 30 cal, and you can buy QD mounts or direct thread mounts for it, depending on your preferences.

At least those were the reasons I ordered my Saker 762... I actually just learned it was in error status today, but it should be all worked out now, so hopefully I only have a couple weeks to a month of waiting left.

Here's a link for kicks:

+1 for the Saker. I bought my Specwar just before the Saker came out. The Saker is one of the most versatile cans out.

Thanks for the responses and link! I agree with you all, a larger 30 cal can will allow more flexibility if I buy another, larger caliber rifle.

I appreciate the additional information to research! Thank you!

My 30 caliber can is a Thunderbeast 30P1, awesome can.

For 5.56 I am using the Liberty Torch QA can and have adapters on several rifles.

A 30 cal can shot sub-caliber .223 is almost, if not just as, quiet. My Ruger Scout in .556 is eerily quiet with a 30 cal YHM Phantom Ti. I'm 100% satisfied with the YHM QD mount suppressor. Today I ran it on two different 300 BLK uppers, tomorrow it'll be on the Ruger .556, Friday on a .308 bolt rifle. For how much these things cost, and for how long you have to wait to get one, versatility is a virtue.

So, it makes sense to buy a 7.62 can that I could be used on another rifle if I buy one in the future AND use on my 5.56 Tavor to help reduce blow back.

So putting together a short list:

Surefire SOCOM762-MINI MSRP $1,399
AAC 762-SDN-6™ MSRP $1,050
YHM YHM-4300 MSRP $789
Thunder Beast 30CB5 MSRP $845
SilencerCo Saker 762 MSRP $1300

As a newbie, I have no idea of the quality of the manufacturers and of the components they use. I cannot distinguish hype from actual. How does one sift through the "marketing" of suppressors to arrive at a fair price as compared with the quality of the product?

There is such a large range in pricing and one would believe it has to do with quality parts.....I'm not so sure....

Help!

Limited experience with my Tavor / AAC M4-2000 so far (others have shot it more than I have), but:
1. I didn't have any signs of "Tavor Face", but I do have the FLEx Swivel installed on mine.
2. Can't help you with POI shift as I've not had much time to shoot off the bench yet (and cold weather's now here) in order to compare. I've only zeroed mine with a barrel laser @ 100 yards (at night, on a shed 100 yards from my bedroom window). My buddy put a hole dead center thru his rimfire plates at 75 yards, off hand, so it's probably pretty good to go until I can play with it and compare with / without silencer and dial it in a little more.

If you go AAC, keep an eye out on Midway USA - I got a number of AAC QD flash suppressors for my can from 'em - they ran 'em on sale quite often lately.
They also currently have a $10 off $150, $20 off $200, $25 off $250 sale 'til 11-22-14.

BTW - another bonus of the FLEx Swivel is being able to use a Magpul MS4 sling in the single point configuration (with the FLEx Swivel QD mount forward).
The rear OEM QD mount is so far to the rear on the Tavor, that I couldn't use the sling as a single point - the darn rifle hung so low you had no mobility with it.

And should you ever get into 22 silencers, I did find out (after purchasing):
1. The AAC Element 2 has no first round pop (pistol or rifle).
2. The Silencerco SS Sparrow has a first round pop on a pistol, but not a rifle (15-22).

So, it makes sense to buy a 7.62 can that I could be used on another rifle if I buy one in the future AND use on my 5.56 Tavor to help reduce blow back.

I suggest you contact someone who represents a wide array of these suppressors, they are likely to have actual real-world experience with more than one brand or model. The nature of the suppressor beast is such that any one person is unlikely to have real-world experience with more than a couple different brands and models.

I like dealing with Silencer Shop, they've always been helpful to me and their prices appear generally competitive. I have no relationship with them other than a retail customer.

Good luck!
