The path less chosen...
Or at least i hope it is considering i havent shot it yet!
Its my new 20 ounce, Cobra Patriot .45acp with a 3.3" barrel. It holds 6 rounds in the one factory supplied mag.I own few handguns that feel as good in my hand as this one.Im not thrilled that the slide wont lock back on an empty mag,but the tech at Cobra said its not supposed to.Right now,the mag release is very stiff and being right handed i find it easiest to release the mag with my left thumb. Its metal by the way, which seems rarer all the time on todays polymer handguns.I prefer it.The trigger is very light for about 80% of its travel and then the true DAO action swings in and you feel the 10lbs fully! Feels good though and its got two strike capability without having to rack the slide to recock.Ive never tried to post a pic so it opens automatically -maybe someday. Here is the Patriot next to my 5" 1911 and Kel-Tec P32.By the way,the Patriots stainless slide is milled from a casting and to me looks just like a Ruger P series stainless slide. They must use the same process. Now to break it in and see if its worth a dang! Even though the pic looks different, all muzzles were flush with each other.

I meant to add that even though its not on their website like a lot of other guns,i got it at SOG.Considering it weighs 20 ounces, the Cobra Patriot .45acp is extremely robust in its construction.

Allright, talk to me. After looking at your pics and seeing what you paid I want to know what you ment by, "even though its not on their website like a lot of other guns,i got it at SOG". I just sent them my new C&R FFL. How do you find out about firearms that aren't on their site. BTW a range report is not expected it's demanded.:)

That Patriot does feel nice but I was stopped from buying one because of mixed reviews I have read. It seems that most are good but a few are not up to snuff.

Handy package for a .45. Reminds me of a ergonomic Glock 36. You know, a Glock that actually fits in a human hand.:D

:D LOL
My research has shown almost universal praise for the Patriot .45acp whether its a Cobra or Republic Arms manufacture. It really does feel great in my hand.Just remember though, like i said it looks like a Ruger stainless slide looks and therefore not like a $400.00 gun.Hopefully it will get shot in the next several days but it will not be at a formal range so there will not be any "sandbag for accuracy" tests going on.Its kinda funny, after i messed with it when i brought it home i put it in my safe and picked up my Glock 21 for comparison. The 21 is positively GIGANTIC next to the Patriot and SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOO much thicker.I was shocked! I hope it shoots as nice as it feels.

And by the way,SOG has TONS of stuff they dont show on their website.I was determined to get this Patriot so i e-mailed Cobra who promptly got back to me with wholesalers who normally stock them.My FFL lets me do the ordering on stuff he normally doesnt want to order or stock. He called SOG and OK'd my purchase and i was off to the races.Kinda like yesterday at Oaklawn!

I got the Taurus PT-145 instead as its actually a little smaller than the Patriot and was only about $60 more than what they were asking for the Patriot. Its 10+1 and also true DA with second strike capability.

I'd probably buy a Patriot without hesitation if I saw one for under $200!

Guns smaller than normal for their caliber dominate my collection.

IMHO Kel-Tec P3AT and Kahr PM40 are the curent kings of the hill in terms of power to size or weight ratio, with the Karh being about twice the power level.

Patriot seem very much like waht a single stack Kel-Tec P11 in 45ACP would be.
Definitely, let us know how it shoots -- accuracy and reliablity.

My PT145 has been flawless out of the box with much better accuracy than I had expected.

Here are the stats on several small .45acp's with empty mag.Taken from manufacturers website.I considered these 3 for my small .45acp.

-------------------OA length--------- Barrel------Height ------Width----Weight
Cobra Patriot ---------6"------------- 3.3"---------4.7"---------1.0"------20oz
Taurus PT 145---------6"-------------3.25"-------5.1"---------1.25"-----23oz
Mini Firestorm---------6.7"------------3.6"---------4.9"---------1.4"-------27oz

That is why i like tropicalZ...he is never afraid to go out on a limb, and buy what most people would consider a junker...such as HiPoint, or this patriot here...

He is the anti gun-snob.

I love it....However, i dread the fact that we are going to have to hear "Patriots RUUUUUUUUUUULE!!!!" for the rest of eternity. :D

Oh, by the way..here ya go.

Yes, the Patriot .45 seems to be well made, allows a very comfortable grip, is very easily carried, and is cheap, but mine whacks the heck out of my hand and has never been reliable. Good luck on yours.

Cobra is kinda around the corner from me. Ill give them a call and see if they send out "molds" to holster makers. Some do.......if so, then leather is covered at least in part.
Shoot well and congrats on your find.

Here is some more Patriot discussion from The Kel-Tec Range board.

Here's some Patriot pictures and info I assembled a few years back when I got my Rebupbic Arms Patriot. Great little 45 for the money. The Republic Arms Patriot was discussed at great length many times on Ktog years ago. Many of us bought them and enjoy them. Most called it the P-45 since Kel-Tec wouldn't and still won't make a 45.
