My new Talo handgun just showed up today, a Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp Talo edition 357 magnum with a 3" barrel......... it is a thing of beauty, if it shoots as good as it looks......... well lets just say I'll be even more pleased............ here are some pic's for your viewing pleasure.

Love the sandblasted look...
How often thought of sandblasting my S&W 66 snub...

Love the fixed sights, fiber optic, and chamfered front surface of the cylinder...

That GP100 RULES!

I have been eyeballing those at my local gun shop...but cannot afford a new gun purchase at this time...

Which is why I love this forum....because I can look at yours!

Let us know how it shoots...but I am sure it will be rock solid.

Not to everyone's liking with the fancy embellishments but Bob does bring some nice and interesting things to market. Quite the gentleman too. :)

Wow - nice collection! I'm trying to decide between the 686+ and Wiley Clapp. Can you give me your shooting impressions between the two? I'd like to know what you think about the sights and triggers of each.

If you can wait till Thursday I can, between work and night school I've not made it to the range yet.

I sure would appreciate it, if you could! I have a long-winded thread on this forum trying to pick out a 38/357 revolver for me and my wife. A 3" with adjustable sights seems to package all the things we're looking for. I'm interested to know how the 686+ and Wiley Clapp compare.

If you were closer You could join me.

And I would take you up on that! :D

I look forward to your thoughts. I'm looking hard at dropping the coin for a 686+ despite less availability of stuff like holsters and speed loaders (as compared to 4” models) because I like the feel of the 3” so much. I don't believe the standard 3" GP will work for me because there's only one aftermarket option for the front sight and none for the fixed, rear sight.

Just got back from the range with my S&W talo 686 and my Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp.......... and must saw both guns are a blast to shoot, very accurate with very nice triggers. The groupings for both guns aren't bad but could be better and I blame myself on that as I was rushed. Leaving on a quick out of town trip tomorrow so I squeezed this range time in (couldn't wait till we get back) LOL ...............I put 50 rounds of Remington 125 grain 357 magnum rounds, yes they have some snot to them, thru both guns. Between work and school not much time to relaod, so I had to hit Wally World and this is all they had. Any ways, I shot the 686 first, 7 rounds (it's a 7 rounder) in single action and the remaining 43 in double action. The gun has a nice solid feel to it and the sites line up nice and naturally. The trigger pull is clean and crisp, much smoother than my Ruger Blackhawk or my Charter arms bulldog (only other revolvers I have besides new GP100). I've posted some pic's below of my shooting, the first one is of the 1st 7 rounds in double action and the 2nd is of all 44 shot in double action.

I shot the Ruger second again with the first 6 rounds in single action and the remaining 43 in double action. Again I must say the trigger pull is clean and crisp and I'm thinking a little smoother than the 686. The grips in my opinion are just as attractive as the ones on the Talo 686, but in a different way. Posted below are some pic's of my shooting with it. Again the first 6 shot in double action and then the remaining 44 total.

Both guns are very accurate, way more so than my shooting here represents. The triggers are very close, but I give a slight edge to the Ruger. The 686 Talo holds 7 rounds in roughly the same size as the Ruger, so an edge here goes to the 686. The grips are beautiful on both guns in my opinion but the edge goes to the Ruger as the rubber portion allows for a firmer, more comfortable grip than the Smith. I've got to blisters on my shooting hand from the Smith from shooting it, where as the Ruger provides a very comfortable grip, fits my hand like glove. The sights are nicer, more useable on the Ruger than on the Smith. The Novak rear and fiber optic front are very visible even to my old eyes. :) One more thing I'll note before I close out this post is that I really like both guns and both will be passed down to my brothers son. But if I could only get one, all things considered I would go with the Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp edition for all the reasons I've listed, plus the Ruger cost me about $90 less than the Smith.

This is my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt as I am by far not a gun expert. Thanks for looking..........

That's not what I expected, which means it has to be really good. At this point I think I'm going with whichever one I find first.

Thank you for taking the time to post up!

Your welcome........... both guns are great and will be passed down thru my family, but the Ruger just fits my hand so nicely............ Good luck on your search........... and on that note, I've got to open my safe and gaze upon my collection. :)

Oh man those are beautiful. That S&W .44 is my dream gun, unfortuantely not avaaliable to us in Canada (barrel length of 4.2" and over). But I enjoy seeing yours

I recently heard from a credible source that S&W will be making the 629 with a 4.2 barrel sometime late this year.

A tuned action, trigger stop, chamfer charge holes, polish rebound spring, hammer stud and yoke barrel bosses, detail lockwork surfaces, and they stone hammer and trigger contact areas. I also had a C&S Extreme Duty Fixed Rear sight added to replace the adjustable one.
