i recently purchased a xdm 9mm 3.8. since purchase i have shot the gun on several occasions in competition (3 times) and jus around back in the woods (2 times, and it was very hot and sandy). so far i have put about 500 rds through it and even though i am a glock guy i must say the xdm is a very nice firearm...

with that said its not great. i do not feel it is as reliable as my glock (due to the excessive safety features), the internals of the gun seem so cramped and loaded with various springs and unnecesarily large parts. i feel that its just a recipe for a malfunction or mechanical failure.

however i do like-
accuracy- i was shocked at how accurate the pistol was, and just for kicks me and my friend tried it out on a box (roughly the size of a torso) at 100 yrds and was able to hit the target about 1/3 of the time

reliability (so far)- i dont like the design but i have to admit i have not had a single malfunction, i even tried to limp wrist it to see if it would fail, and i couldnt even get it to jam

capacity- in competion i have found the 19 round size to be oddly convenient as it affords me the ability to reload when i want to and leaves plenty of buffer room for mistakes.

i dislike-
size- this pistol is not a compact... by any definition of the word

complexity- i just feel the pistol could be little simpler. i still have not figured out how to completely strip the pistol.

*ive only had two significant problems with this pistol and that would be, the retainer pin to the firing pin keeps popping up out the top of the slide blocking my sight picture, as well as making me uneasy and quite dissapointed in its worksmanship.

the second being i still havnt figured out how to completely strip the weapon, i only know how to field strip the firearm. so if anyone knows a link or a vid please help a guy out.

The retaining pin needs to be replaced. It is a 10 cent piece at a hardware store. The key is the clock position of the split in the pin. There are many youtube videos of this and the complete detail strip procedure.

Yes, it is a tad more complex design than a Glock, but it works well, and is built more robust. Glock pistols are light. Almost too light. It is impressive that they work as well as they do, considering how thin so many components are. And Glocks do malfunction more, in my experience, than XD's do.

I don't care for the whole 3.8 thing. Wrong end to cut. Now if the 3.8 had a shortened grip with about 13-15rds, we'd be talking some smack.
