My days of walking the fields are over, along with sending two hundred rounds of 12ga. down the trap line, or going prone in three gun. What I haven't sold I passed down to my adult children.

To be with me these days are an AR15 pencil bbl. flattop with an Aimpoint Micro and Aimpoint magnifier using a LaRue twist mount. The other "battle worthy" carbine is an Arsenal 106 in 5.56 using an Ultimak mount and the Aimpoint micro. And, last, but not least, in these economic times, a Ruger 10/22 stainless for giving an "old fart" an afternoon's enjoyment when he otherwise couldn't afford it.

If your getting a "little silver", what will you take into your "Senior Years?"

I'm sorry I don't have a camera to post a pic of my three. Bob.:)

If you're satisfied, fine.

For me, well, I've been silver-headed since high school, and ALL of my years are golden.

I'm adding to the herd, not thinning. A Remington 870 12 ga. last month, a Franken-AR the month before, et cetra.

Now for more range time - and I'm looking for a bit of shooting land down in the Big Bend... .

I have to give it to Col. Cooper on this one. After many years of gun toting for fun and employment, and having owned most examples of most fighting and hunting guns, I am very content with a variation of the "scout" rifle that I own, and could make do with that for most any situation. It is a chopped lefty Remington 700 in .30-06, with Burris scout mount and scope. I can thow it up and get on targets quicker than with AR's & Ak's, etc, so that makes me a potential winner in a even match (do those ever really happen?). UPDATE: Disregard the previous mention of pistols. Didn't remember the 3 rifle thing. Make #2 an M1 Garand, and #3 my Bolt action Remington 581 for the little stuff.

My "Golden Years" rifles would probably be my Colt 6920, my Browning X-Bolt in .25-06, and my SA M1 Carbine. Handguns would be my S&W 686 and my Colt MK IV/ Series 70.

Hmmmm....

Just three ehh?

- 10/22
- M1 Garand
- AR-10 (set up as bench gun)

That should keep me in business. But I can't imagine just having three. What about the grand kids and neighbors?

My "senior" years (I turned 66 yesterday) has no bearing on the number of firearms nor the shooting/hunting activities I anticipate in the future. This is the time (the term "Golden Years" has a nice ring to it and seems apropo as a harbinger for a gilded future) adding to my collection, not subtracting. :) That said, if I had to limit my firearms to a three gun ensemble, I'd go with a rifle chambered in either .308 or 30-06 (if I knew big game hunting would never be on the agenda, I'd consider a .223/5.56); a 12 gauge shotgun and a Ruger Super Single Six (.22RF and .22 Magnum).

I think your selections sound about right. With the rifles I currently own I will go with my Bushmaster AR .223, Savage 93R 17hmr, and my .40 Beretta CX-4.

My three right now are an Springfield Loaded M1A, an FN PBR XP and an Arsenal SLR-106FR. I love those rifles and they are the holy trinity for me now. I'm only 37 though. ;-)

Heck, I probably don't "need" more than 10% of the guns I own. So what? I get enjoyment out of shooting them, handling them and collecting them and when it's all said and done they're a better investment than any other hobby I've ever had. I plan on collecting them until I die and when I go my family can sell them off and do what they want with the money.

Right now, I'd like to have more black powder guns. Flintlocks, matchlocks, handgonnes, that sort of thing. No practical purpose at all, but a lot of fun.
