My truck got broken into yesterday. They stole my radio, jumper cables, maglite, girlfriends shoes and my backpack. My backpack contained 5 loaded magazines of silvertips for my Glock 20(plus school books and a checkstub and various work material). While they were rummaging through my truck they found a box of 9mm, .357 shells(I reload), and .22s. Now I'm sure these f*ing losers have never even heard of 10mm. And the variety of ammunition that I gave them a peek at probably amazed them. Now my check stub is another thing. I'm a part-time student that makes over 65,000 a year. Now they know I have several guns, they know how much money I make, and they got away. I am seriously worried about getting robbed from my driveway to front door. Or getting ransacked, or worst a home invasion. I have a dog, a rottweiler, who is mean. For whatever reason that night he didn't bark(I know!). The Glock 20 was my carry gun, but now I have no magazines. So I've gone to my Glock 30 and I went and bought a Smith and Wesson 442 loaded with .38 spl +P Winchester 130grain "bonded" something. The revolver is for my pocket and the Glock is just in case things get worst. As of last night I now have an alarm system My rottweiler fathered pups three weeks ago so in another 3 weeks or so his son will join him. Now this isn't that big of a deal but my brother-in-law's truck was also broken into 4 weeks ago. My aunts house got broken into 2 weeks ago, and believe it or not my uncle got carjacked in his own driveway at 4:00 PM at gunpoint by 2 thug teenagers. There is a crime wave going on and I'm not making this up. These are really bad coincedences, and I've got good reason to worry. I have a gun safe, it's a good one AMSEC and it's completely worthless if they put a gun to my head and make me give them the combination. So now I'm going to get an alarm system to couple with the storm shutters and the burgalar bars. Anyother suggestions, besides being aware, which I'm always.

Texasred: "They stole my ... girlfriends shoes ..."

Okay, this is your bigger worry right here. My ex lost nearly all of her extensive footwear collection (no, she was not named Imelda) in our last move together. She was irate! To this day not one of those missing boots, pumps, sandals, et cetera has turned up. You also have some STRANGE burglars, if they would take a used pair of women's shoes.

Now, I want to hear a little more about how her shoes, and only her shoes, ended up in your truck in the first place.

That's a fortune these days!

I tell people this over and over

Don't keep anything in a vehicle you you don't want stolen.

I don't think this is worthy of you level of freak out, So they know you have guns...Guns that can

A. Be stolen

or

B. Used to shoot their sorry asses if they try anything pfunny

just depends on how desperate/dumb they are

No, I'd be pretty worried. They got his check stub, that has a lot of info on it, ssn, birthdate, address, large numbers, combined with the guns, this is a pretty safe bet for a crook. They also know he goes to work. Identity theft is probably something to watch closely as well.

catspa: "With all due respect, Duke, we don't know that only her shoes were in his truck, just that only her shoes were stolen..."

Excellent point. However, a burglar strange enough to steal a used pair of pumps should have been positively ecstatic to discover a used pair of panties.

IF they do have your SSN and B-date on your check stubs, i would kindly ask that they dont do that anymore. Ive never recieved a stub with DOB and mine only has the last 4 numbers ofthe SSN.

I could be wrong about the info on a check stub. It has been nearly 20 years since I've seen one. I prefer self employment. The point is that there is a ton of useful personal info on there.

Vehicle burglaries suck.

It's happened to me three times, if I ever catch the SOB's who ever did any of them they will experience a form of hell never seen by anyone who lived.

Well there isnt much info on mine other than

Emp #
Name
Department
Pay Period
Last 4 Digits of my SSN
and my little wages

From what I can tell the most valuable and complete information on mine is my name. :I

If you and your family that were robbed are all in Texas, something that may help is moving.
I don't know anybody that was ever robbed let alone three other people in my family.
Is all that vilolence due to Mexico's garbage spilling in over here or is that the norm?

Here's what hillary should be spewing: "Mexico is the cause of crime and drugs in the US, we must make this problem go away for the US citizens"......

My truck was broken into last month, I caught the guys in the act. I would not stress that they are coming back though, most car burglars are petty thefts looking for change and stuff that can be sold to buy drugs.

"Here's what hillary should be spewing: "Mexico is the cause of crime and drugs in the US, we must make this problem go away for the US citizens"......Thank God someone besides me thinks this. Can anyone argue we are a bigger problem to Mexico then they are to us?

sh*t man, sorry to hear! i'm curious to know what part of houston too. i did some growing up in sugar land and now i live in austin. i know crime went up since katrina a few years back...
just last friday my neighbor's little honda was broken into and her radio was stolen. i park my truck **right next to her car** and so now i'm all sorts of freaked out too. i don't keep a gun in there, but there are some expensive things that i wouldn't want to be stuck without, like lights, tow straps, tools, and ammo for the gun i know i always have on me. and i'd hate to lose those things. all this just plain sucks... at least with the money you make you didn't take too big a financial hit, haha.

On another thread people were upset with me for suggesting that a vehicle was not an apropriate place to store a firearm. Now that your truck has been cleaned out you should keep it that way, then next time you will only be out the broken glass.

I'm not sure I can add a lot to what's already been said, but an alarm system is a good idea, and a mean dog is good too. That would be enough to stop most people from breaking in, but make sure the alarm system is a good one, which only goes off if someone tries to enter the house. Obviously, motion activated indoor alarms are no good if you have dogs inside. Some alarms can be neutralized simply by cutting the phone line, or shutting off the electricity. Make sure yours isn't like that. It would probably be best if it alerts local LE as well as making a lot of noise on site. Make sure your dog won't let himself be distracted by a steak or something, too, that he will protect his home from an intruder. If you have a good safe it will take a pro or at least a good torch to get into it. Any idiot who uses a torch to open a gun safe...
Since you have guns at home you need only to be prepared if someone tries to break in while you're there. You can use a stack of tin cans in front each door as an extra alarm to alert you and your dog if someone tries coming in a door, or you can tie some together and hang them from the doorknob, do basically the same thing with windows if you want. Put a few rocks in the cans to increase the noise level. It's inconvenient but it makes a lot of racket.
You might try setting up some things to let you know someone's tried to get in or been in the house while you're not home too.
Car burglars are typically kids, not pros, and they aren't very likely to try a house burglary. They may know someone who would though.
Identity theft would be a real concern, depending on how much personal info they got from your vehicle. That many members of a single family being robbed makes me wonder if some personal info wasn't found at the 1st or 2nd break-in and used to find other family members.

What part of Houston did this happen in?

Last year we had our cars broken into 6 different times. Three times(Both cars at one time and then one car another time) it was in our drive way at the house. The last time the alarm went off and I went running down the stair case with gun drawn because i saw the kid in the truck. He must have heard me because he was running when i got to the door. I knelt down to take the shot and couldn't get a clean shot, but wanted to.

I thought I recognized the kid being a neighbor kid, but HPD didn't care to even ask them about it. A couple of days later the neighbor(dad of the kid I thought it was) asked about our cars. He said his hadn't been broken into at all. I said, I changed bed guns to a .308 that i can shoot longer ranges so I will kill the guy doing it next time. The finger prints on our cars have stopped and we haven't been broken into since.

The other times was at a loft downtown.

Then this year, my other half gets her truck broken into two times within 10 days. She works at a Chevy dealer and the demo didn't even have 25 miles on it and it was broken into in River Oaks. The other time it was broken into it was at a comedy club parking lot.

We haven't lost any firearms, we started putting a console vault into all of our cars. I no longer take my "car gun" inside every time I park it and just leave it in the vault at all times, unlocking it when I start the car.

If you want some info about a Console Vault send me a PM and I will get in touch with you. The local DEA and US Marshals use them and they are NICE. We are a dealer so we can discount them.

All the more reason to rig the alarm system to a claymore.

All kidding aside a lockbox under a seat is what he should have had.
