It was waiting for me last night when I got home from work and I am quite pleased with it. I ordered it from The Possible Shop and it shipped from Taylor's.

The overall fit & finish is very nice however the case color is a little thin on the frame and they could have polished the brass a little better but no big deal.

The action and timing seem to be excellent and the trigger pull is nice with just a touch of creep. Hardly any end shake and the gap between the cylinder and forcing cone seems minute, no more than my ROA anyway.

Cylinder rotation at half cock has a little drag to it but nothing major.

Remington #10's seem to fit the best; seated all the way down and fired on all chambers the 1st time.

CCI #11's went on kinda loose and did not seat all the way down. Did not try to fire them since the #10's did so well.

This is my 1st Uberti and one nice thing I noticed is that there is not a lot of crap stamped all over the gun. The proof marks are hardly noticeable and the "CAL .36 BLACK POWDER ONLY-A.UBERTIITALY" is hidden under the barrel.

Well, I can't wait to shoot it but I better break it down and clean it first. I can already tell the wedge may take a little to work get out.

I think my ROA is gonna be jealous!

Questions:

1. The manual recommends .380 balls...is Dixie the only place that has them? Also, can somebody give me some feedback on these balls?

2. Does anybody know if Uberti test fires their c&b revolvers?

Thanks!
Brent

Very nice - always interested in the blackpowder guns but have not purchased any as of yet.
Great choice with Uberti

I recently bought a Ruger Old Army after years of shooting the Colts and Remingtons and I'll tell ya, the ROA is everything you Ruger guys have been saying it is.
Several Ubertis that I own have had problems with the loading lever latch/barrel lug falling off. I'd be curious if you have similar problems.

Dirtypacman, are you anywhere near Kittery, ME? The Kittery Trading Post has a pretty good selection of new and used BP revolvers and supplies, probably the best selection in New England.

Thanks guys!

I really like my ROA, especially with max loads.:D I bought it used and ended up having to send it to Ruger because of a timing issue. For the cost of one-way shipping they totally re-built it and I haven't had any trouble with it since then.

The latch spring is nice and stiff and the barrel lug appears to be tight in the dovetail. Hopefully it will stay that way.

The barrel lug is a little off center but since it is tight I'm not going to mess with it.

Well....I finally made it to the range today....this is a fun gun to shoot and I am very pleased with it.

The only balls that will fit are the Hornady .395 balls.....so my '51 Uberti is pretty much a 40 cal. Navy.:D

The Hornady and Speer .375 balls were too small as well as the .380 balls from Track of the Wolf. I have not tried the .380 balls from Dixie.

I shot 4 cylinders with 2 miss-fires do to light strikes...I think??? The two #10 caps that miss-fired in my Uberti worked in my ROA.

My load was:
Remington #10 Caps
25 grains of Goex 3F
Sagebrush Wad
Hornady .395 Ball

Shot 6" groups at 25 yards from a sandbag and the groups were about 4" high of POA. Probably can get tighter groups with a lighter load.

So far so good but the gun doesn't like fowling....after the 3rd cylinder the cylinder rotation was binding up pretty bad.

2. Does anybody know if Uberti test fires their c&b revolvers?

Not directly Uberti, every single weapon producted in Italy or inported from other country must be forced tested by an organization under the govern control called "banco di prova nazionale" means http://www.bancoprova.it/homepage.htm
This is the site, it's in italian but there are some information over the proof mark of all the european similar organization, all the small mark on your revolver like the year code in a box the "PN" (black powder test) are made on the arms not from the producer but from B.N.P.

Sakohunter,

The only balls that will fit are the Hornady .395 balls.....so my '51 Uberti is pretty much a 40 cal. Navy.

In the Colt factory a 40 caliber 1851 was produced and tested. Since none were produced....

The Hornady and Speer .375 balls were too small as well as the .380 balls

Either mike the chambers or slug them. This will tell you the minimum size you need.

In the 70s it was not uncommon to find the chambers smaller than the bore. We handled that by reaming the chambers to larger size.

rusty...Thanks that's good to know.

StrawHat....Yeah, I guess I need to buy a mic tool.

The three balls that I mentioned didn't work would stick to the rammer and pull back out of the chamber.

I have about 190 .380 balls from Track of the Wolf that I would be willing to trade for something if anybody is interested. Just PM me. Thanks!

Mine is a uberti/Taylors also. Very accurate. Mine also uses .380 balls, and the hammer spring was too light when I first got it. I replaced the hammer spring with one from VTI and it works perfect, very few cap jams from blowing back the hammer and falling into the hammer area. My wedge was too tight and I just sanded down one side until it fit good and tight, but not having to use a hammer to get it in.

I know it sounds ridiculous to have to work on a new gun out of the box, but that's life today. I have seen new Colts and Smiths sent back to the factory because of flaws too.

Have Fun,

CH

I have the same model as you and am very happy with it. It didn’t like 375 balls much and accuracy improved with 380, which I had to cast.

Cylinder begins to bind after 24 shoots and I find No 11 caps slightly ‘pinched’ work very well.

Here's a friend of mine shooting it
