Here's my .02 cents worth on the XD-9.

My son springerman05 recieved his XD-9 today from a seller on gunbroker. Price for the gun was $310 + $45 shipping. After paying the $15 transfer fee the total bill was $370. Transaction from start to finish was top notch!

The gun was used but in great shape. Owner said he shot 50 rounds out of it and from what I can tell he was correct. Very minor barrel wear from the slide and it came with 4 each 10 round mags. We took it apart, cleaned and inspected and re-assembled for the range. Took 200 rounds of 115gr Winchester White box and off we went.

As for the ergonomics, the grip is nice and slim compared to the G19 I had and of course alot slimmer than my G20. Sights are easy to acquire and slide release is pretty easy to let loose even for us left handers.

The gun shot all 200 rounds without a hiccup and accuracy at 15 yards was spot on. I shot out the center of a Shoot and see target with ease. The boy had a little bit larger group but after a short time of getting used to the gun it got better. Reload is a breeze and double taps easy to manage (of course it would be, its a 9).

All in all, it was a nice gun for the money. The grip safety was a non-issue cause I didn't notice it a bit.

So here's the pro's;
Great grip
Sights are easy to acquire
Slide release is easy to manipulate (even for us lefties)
Feeds and functions just fine with FMJ ammo
Nice and light package for CCW.

And here's the cons;
The trigger is questionable. By that I mean there is alot of travel (to be expected in a DAO). I'm used to my Glock trigger where I hold the trigger back after the shot and then slowly release the trigger forward until I feel it reset. There is no slack pulling the trigger again by doing that. With the XD there was. I would hold the trigger back after the shot, slowly release the trigger forward after cycling and when I felt it reset there was still a bit of slack until the trigger hit the wall prior to firing. I didn't like that too much.

That's about all I found that I didn't care for with the XD. After the range trip we hit a couple of shops looking for holsters. No luck other than Fobus (yuck). I did get to fondle the XD-45 in a 5" version. The grip is great compared to a G30's for sure. Holds 13 rounds as well.

So for the money I say go ahead and get one. I plan on it (in .45 ACP):D

Nice writeup.

I'm getting a lot better with mine. I've put about 500rds through it since I got it last month. The gun has been absolutely awesome. I bought a box of 100 Remington JHPs and I think they're more accurate than the Remington white box I normally practice with. I ran the target back to 20-25yds and I was able to hit the black pretty consistently. At 7-15yds, you can completely blast the center out of the target :D

Cant really reccomend a holster since we cant carry here anyway so it's a non-issue.

The trigger re-set is longer than the Glock and it does take some time to get adjusted to the longer travel, but it can be done with practice. My XD9-Tac has a "trigger job" done by Canyon Creak, much improved reset and ~2.5lb pull.

As for the XD45ACP, go for it:D I've had mine since 2/1/06, and it's a BIG winner for me. Same grip at the XD9 (at least that's how it feels for me) but 14rnds of .45:what: I like it so much, I sold my SA 1911 Champion Lwt, if that tells you anything....
