I picked up a SA XDS in 45 today because the wife sold her Harley and told me I could buy a gun if it didn't cost too much. :)

So when I went to get it I took my old Star Firestar to trade in and the XDS was $450 OTD.

I was suprised to see a FO front sight and was expecting to not like the sights but they look good to me. I broke it down and cleaned and lubed it and everything works great - of course I still have to shoot it though!

Now I need some 7 round mags and a holster so I have to be nice to the wife some more! :D

My wife doesn't have a Harley :( We do have the ability to buy an XDs and I've noticed the prices are slowly dropping. My brother in law has one so I hope to shoot it soon and solidify my resolve that this is the one I need. Did you get yours at your LGS? How much influence did the Star have on the deal? Thanks.

Good wife. Good gun. Congrats on both. I really like mine and carry it quite a bit.

The Star Firestar had everything to do with it as the price was kinda high on the XDS and the wife didn't want to spend that much. This was at a LGS that's 10 minutes from my house.

I shot the XDS today with the 2 5rd mags that come with it and was really suprised that it was not hard to control at all, even with my little finger hanging off of it. I was shooting in the desert at the only target around, a plastic bucket I found with only a couple of holes in it. I don't know about precise accuracy yet but I did drill that bucket 50 times from about 10 yards away.

I shot WWB and had no issues at all. The trigger pull was better than I thought it would be, and even though this model is not considered by many to be a range gun I'll b taking it with me shooting quite a bit from now on.

If $450.00 was the asking price you stole it. They are $559.00 plus tax and PICS here. Or did you pay $450.00 plus your Firestar? tom.

No it was $450 with the trade in. His price seemed kinda high at $565 and he gave me $175 for the Star. I was hoping for $200 but it was close enough for the wife to spring for it. But it was local and I didn't have to spend $50 on gas driving to Vegas.

If you would look on Slickguns.com, you could buy one just about any week for $4-450. You need to keep the app open or subscribe to alerts on guns you want.

I hope you like yours as much as I like mine. It is 100% reliable, more accurate than it has any right to be and one of the most 'carryable' guns I have.

Valkman, my favorite all time gun not to mention my favorite all time Southern Nevada town (Pahrump). I'll bet you shoot at Front Sight quite a bit.

I have been to Front Sight to visit but never shot there. I just go out in the desert by my house and BLM land and blast away.

I think you guys are right, this is a sweet little gun and I can't wait until I can carry it.

I handled one at my LGS today and I really liked it .

I have heard on the net that it has a heavy trigger , but the one I handled had a good trigger .

Let us know how it shoots .

Hometeach, you are aware they have a 3.8 inch version in 45, I believe, I almost got the 3.8 in 9mm, but have too darn many small 9's.
It's the best little gun "the XDS", out of all of them "IMO", It has 6 rounds on 45 in a small package with low recoil and no failures in the 2 years I have mine. Basically the perfect little pistol with a big punch. Just slap on the extended mag, and a light, and you have a real gun. I wish these would have been around, for the 30 years I lugged around those big ass guns.

I haven't checked it on the old trigger pull gauge but it was better than I thought it would be but not near my 1911's (of course). I may get the trigger spring kit for $19 and see what that does.

They don't have a 3.8 in the XDs . They do have a new XDs 4.0" 9mm but the .45 is still 3.3" for now .

Yeah, I'm waiting for the XDS chambered in .45 with a 4" barrel, since I'll most likely carry it on my hip anyway. I'm just not real crazy about autos in a pocket (with a holster of course), but that's just me. The 4" barreled 9mm is also got my interest as well.

95% of the trigger pull reduction in the PRP spring kit is because of the reduced striker spring. On my XDs45, that resulted in light primer strikes....obviously not something you want in a CCW gun. Others found it worked for them. For me, it was a wasted $20.

I altered the factory grip safety spring a bit and reduced the trigger pull by 2 lbs. 5 oz. all without affecting the reliability. It is very well documented on the XDtalk forum. You can skip the 18 page thread and browse the XDs45 trigger pull reduction write-up on my website, if you are interested.

Thanks for that, I ordered the spring kit today.

ETA: checked out your site and that's a great write-up. I'll put the spring kit in and hopefully it'll work but if I need to I'll do this mod.

I agree I'd for go the spring kit,I removed mine after the first outing with it.
It had a nice pull but I had several light strikes.

Some dry-fire will help the trigger.

I love mine even after the recall. I wasn't crazy about the FO front sight so I had some XS Big Dots swapped in.

EDIT to add: The XS Big Dots are night sights front and rear.

It's funny because when I first git it and started dry firing, the trigger felt real bad. But when I actually fired it the trigger was much better. I kind of like the sights the way they are, the only way I'd change 'em is for night sights.
