I am trying to ID a M91 (the original, not M91/30). I can find no date on the receiver. However, there is a "П" in a circle on the top of the receiver tang. (pictured) There are also two "N"s in circles on the front end of the receiver base as well as an "M". (pictured)
Looking at this page, I don't see anything that exactly matches these marks. I see that "П" in an oval means black powder proof. However this Mosin has a "П" in a circle not an oval. Also, there is no explanation of "N" in a circle.
Does anyone have any idea as to the origin of this Mosin receiver? The barrel is dated 1942, which doesn't help. Thanks.
