My one-second guess was some kind of mount for a shell catcher, but it looks too complex for something like that. That thing of the left side of pic 2 that looks a little like it has internal threading might be to fit over the hinge of a rear sight but it would render the sight useless.
And why an adjustment provision?
Breaking out of the "scope mount" mindset, could it be for something else... a goomizigah attachment for reloading equipment? Or something from Grandma's egg beater... ?
It kinda looks like a mount that was on one of my Ruger Mini 14's back in the 80's. It replaced the rear sight and that half moon part rested on the barrel between the handguard and receiver.
M-1 CARBINE????????????? One of the ones that stuck out. There's 0ver 200 mounts and twice that plus in rings. Still unpacking about 5- 10K in parts and pieces. This, the reward for being last man standing in family. GB is a pain and may start my own "list"

These Weaver Bases include a pair of Weaver rings. A convenient package that includes everything to mount a scope to your gun. Handgun mounts feature...
Probably right BUT marked "made in japan" and silver. Thought all older Weaver products were made in USA. Thanks all. Still diving thru big shipping container and thinking of calling an auction house to sell the bulk of items as i do longer have the energy,
