My son and i went to the range today. And his scope was twisted where the cross hairs were off cant. I would guess more like 8 and 2 o'clock if going by the vertical cross hair. He nor i could twist it back by hand. I do keep tools in my range bag for tightening scopes . He loosed the rings. And lined it back up. And the rifle was still on. Just he has no idea how they got twisted. Strange one ?

If it were me, I would have that fixed before hunting with the gun. Twisting the scope back into correct position is a warning sign. You might try checking all the screws to make sure they are down tight and you may want to take them out one by one and use thread lock on each one. OR take the scope off and wrap electrical tape over the ring pressure points or get better rings. I would would opt for better rings.

It has weaver rings. I did put locitite on the screws after we got back from the range. I told him to load 20 rounds with his rifle powder. And run them through to be sure it stays in place. The rounds he shot yesterday were low pressure rounds. Loaded at cast data. He's still debating to use it or his 243 for hunting.

Take the scope in hand and put some pressure on twisting it. One should not be able to twist a scope with mild pressure. Unfortunately I don't think the newer Weaver rings are as good as they use to be 10 years ago.

I agree on the rings. I like the steel ones. My 760 has weaver steel rings on it. We tried to twist it by hand when he discovered it was off. Could not budge it. It must have been a heck of a bump for it to twist. Personally i think he should start up grading scopes too. He shot my 770 with the Vortex on it. He loved it.

Are they the weaver tip off rings with the steel bands? If so you and put a scope on and a few days later the scope will be cantted, if out enough on in used to getting them on right when tightening.
